Quote from: NotBananaKing on Jun 28, 2015, 04:16 PMagain that 2 billion figure isnt permanent for every year. it was around 2B THAT fiscal year, it states in the article they get between 5$-15$ per andriod device sold. the 2B figure was for that FY only.

considering that Andriod sales were steadily rising at that time its safe to assume that the years after it the money they made were higher than 2B, though it also means the years before it (which saw a hefty YoY increase in andriod sales) were less than 2B.
no way were they losing Money on the XB1 in 2011 and 2012. they shipped around 25 million 360's in those 2 years, sold around 20 million Kinects and software sales were through the roof, and had shame loads of XBL subs.
So would the money coming in from Android be higher then?

Last generation was a weird one. The Wii initially sold at an incredibly fast pace due to the novelty of motion control gaming. However, once that wore out, so did its sales. The Xbox 360 peaked twice last gen thanks to the Kinect. The PS3 started out slow, but managed to pick up steam to match 360's shipment numbers.

Fast forward to now, this gen is an entirely different story. The Wii U is hopeless in terms of significantly increasing its userbase. It does not appeal to either the casual or core audiences. Microsoft managed to turn the sinking XBO ship upright, but their consoles faces many problems. For one thing, the system is not going to peak twice this gen. The Kinect card has already been played and it actually proved to be a hindrance. I doubt HoloLens will create that second peak because the majority of its potential lies in non-gaming applications. The XBO also faces problems with appealing to non-shooter, non-sports audiences. Most Japanese devs have decided to ignore the XBO altogether. Microsoft has also lost a significant portion of the WRPG fanbase. Not only that, Sony is trying to take the shooter fanbase with their marketing rights to Battlefront and Blops 3.

Even though Sony is currently in a really strong position, the PS4 cannot carry this gen on its back. For one thing, console sales in Japan is on a decline. SE is trying to revive the market with FFVII: Re, but that still has a long way to go. The PS4 literally needs to have a new game every week in order to sell around 20K/week, but that's an impossible, if not, extremely tall order. Project Morpheus may help increase the PS4's sales potential, but it is still a huge question mark. We still don't how much it's going to cost.

Well, the PS4 is the battest console, so there's no surprise there! :P

well see thats the problem, depends on the number of Andriod sales and how much royalty they took per device, since it ranges between 5$ and 15$ according to that article. however its most likely less than 2b before 2013 and higher than 2b after it. that is IF that 2b figure is correct.

NeoGAF - View Single Post -  Media Create Sales: Week 25, 2015 (Jun 15 - Jun 21)

QuoteGamesMaya's report
 - Fire Emblem Fates sold better than Awakening. Even new shipments are selling out, for both versions.
 - Actually, the Black version sold better than the White one the release day. But from the following day, the White one took the lead and now there aren't copies left of any version.
 - Splatoon is still moving Wii U hardware. People are asking for Splatoon's Amiibos (still sold out)

Looks like those marketing rights are paying dividends for Sony. Since the US and UK markets are very similar, I think the PS4 will show a comfortable lead over the XBO for June NPD.

BATMAN ARKHAM KNIGHT CROWNED NO1

29/Jun/2015
Warner's 'Batman Arkham' series is back with a bang as the fourth instalment 'Batman Arkham Knight' transitions to PS4/Xbox One and becomes the new No1 (knocking Warner's No1 from last week 'Lego Jurassic World' down to No2).

'Batman Arkham Knight' is also the week 1 best-seller for the franchise (previously held by 2011's 2nd instalment Batman Arkham City) and also becomes the week 1 best-seller this year so far, comfortably beating previous week 1 best-seller 'The Witcher 3'. Batman AK dev duty was handed back to Rocksteady in the UK, the lead developer for all Arkham games except the third instalment (2013's Batman Arkham Origins) and this is also the first Arkham game to get a Tuesday 'event' day launch in the UK.
This is Warner's 4th No1 this year (Dying Light, MK X, Lego Jurassic World, Batman AK) - the last time a publisher had at least 4 No1 hits in the first half of the year was back in 2012 (EA with FIFA12, Kingdoms of Amalur, SSX, Mass Effect 3 and Fifa Street). The first half of 2015 closes with a few other new releases: Nintendo's Wii U 'Yoshi's Woolly World' gets off to a great start at No4, Square Enix debut at No10 with 'Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward' for PS4 & PC, PQube and Milestone debut at No13 with multi-format 'MotoGP 15' and Bandai Namco complete the Top 40 new entries at No18 with 'J-Stars Victory VS+' for Sony formats.
