However yeah this gen doing worse than 6th would be doom. A sign for a second gaming crash like in the 80s.
Yeah it would be totally awesome. That's my optimistic estimate. Well the core user base (XB+PS) I think will stay about the same. Nintendo just lost all the casuals, which I think is fine.

Yeah and that can't continue, especially with mobiles and tablets now and the Wii doing so well last time. I still don't think this means doom but it certainly isn't great.

The gaming market crashes when game sales tank.  As it is right now, games have been selling quite well even on a low install base.

the-pi-guy

I don't expect that to continue.
Wii U wont even sell 20m.
XBO will do good, maybe there's a chance for 90m.  It should still be outselling the 360.  (65m?)
PS4 will continue to sell 2:1 XBO.
180m.  (130m?)

Dr. Pezus

WiiU: 15m (7.5% share)
XB1: 60m (30% share)
PS4: 125m (62.5% share)

This is how it ends.

Legend

My bets
Wii U: 15 mil(it's dead)
XBO: 45 mil(healthy but no casuals and us/uk only)
PS4: 175 mil(strong us, incredible europe,  ok japan, row boom)

235 mil total, healthy gen ;)

I honestly don't know if Xone will reach 30 million to say the truth.  I honestly think the plug will be pulled once MS gets their PC stuff sorted out.

Nah. Steam will still dominate on PC. They won't make enough on PC to ditch the console.

They're not making enough money on consoles to keep consoles.

They made quite a bit on 360 in its later years. They're probably not losing a lot on XB1. + MS has rivers of money

They're selling the thing at a huge loss and have less money coming in from software sales. I'd be pleasently shocked if it wasn't bleeding money.

Microsoft can afford the losses, but they don't want to. Either they think ditching it is shortsighted, or they'll ditch it.

They made money in two quarters for all of the 14 years.  They did it with a relatively large install base and with Live money.  Even then it wasn't a large sum of profits.  Doesn't make up for the 8 billion they lost previously, nor does it change the fact that 2.5 billion dollars of Google money showed up in that division and it had a small profit.  Xbox was eating up most of that google money.   Plus what @Legend said.

what, that's not true. They made money since like 2010 or 2011.
