so amy sherman-palladino (Gilmore girls, marvelous Mrs maisel) has a new show: étoile.

Gilmore girls is one of my all time favorite show. I'm also really into dancing. I am only 1 episode in but this is like my perfect show.

Just started season 3 of Game of thrones.

Finished season 1 of Dragon Ball. Just bought Dragon Ball Z. So trying to experience all of this.

Finished Toradora.

About halfway through Batman The animated series. I'm somewhat consistently watching like 3 episodes a week. It's a real good time.
Toradora was good
Batman incredible of course

Severence is interesting

Elzbeth season 2 mostly sucks, which sucks cause the first season was great.

They decided to make it all about personal drama instead of murder mystery drama. And the personal drama is just so laughable.

Been watching some shorter anime that are like 13-25 episodes.

Mentioned Toradora already, that's a good time. 8.5/10

After the Rain. I feel weird about talking about this one. It starts off about a 17 year old girl who has a crush on her middle aged boss, but he's not interested. 6/10

A Place Further Than The Universe. Nonsensical title. Lovely series. Watched almost the entire season today actually. 8/10 so far.

i kind of forget to mention. i finished owl house. pretty good with two complaints:

Spoiler for Hidden:
seemed like they wanted to make this "big reveal" moment where they figured out Emperor Belos was actually Philip. maybe it's just me but i already figured that out like 6-8 episodes earlier. if they wanted that to be a plot twist they needed to not be sooo freakin' obvious about it in the earlier episodes.
Spoiler for Hidden:
there wasn't much resolution to the story. did the show get canceled early or something?!? despite the big struggle earlier in the episodes,.. "mom, i'm home" felt more like a cliff hanger than a resolution.
How many episodes did you watch? That sounds like the end of season 2. There are 3 longer 45 minute episodes for a "season 3". The ending is a bit rushed, because it did get cancelled early.

..and it looks like your right. not sure how i got myself confused this morning. i watched to the end of season 2 and this morning before my commute to work i said to myself, "it's been a while i should download owl house today" but then i went to download the next episode and i was like "oh nevermind, i'm already done". but yeah, i didn't watch season 3 yet. lulz.

I decided after a long time of avoiding streaming services, that it was time to watch the Queens Gambit.

3 episodes in. I'm not sure what I expected, but I don't think this is it.

This feels like one of those rare shows that make some real thing feel more important.

I loved it. Great show.

And it revived chess so that's pretty cool.

the earlier episodes are very much about Harmon's life. it gets more chess as the show goes but the show is still mostly about harmon not a documentary about chess.

I finished Queen's Gambit.

Spoiler for Queen's Gambit:
Great show. I wasn't expecting all the addiction side of the story.

From what I understand, from listening to GothamChess for the past couple years, a lot of the chess is actually very accurate.
They do use older notation, which I only realized was a thing, when I watched something else with old chess recently. (Which recently might be like a year ago now).

The one thing that did bug me slightly, is that realistically she'd be playing hundreds of games, and losing dozens of games at minimum. But of course they need the drama. It's also very common to have draws, but they don't show that in the show.

Like two of the best chess players in the world right now, Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura has a record of 14 wins for Magnus, 1 win for Hikaru and 28 draws for classical games.

Realistically Beth would have probably had a few dozen games against Borgov, and probably would have been tied a bunch of them.

But of course, wouldn't make the best TV.
Now to try watching Dark again.

I tend to have a bit of trouble when there's a lot of characters.

I'm assuming it's not super uncommon, considering someone made these very detailed character guides:

Reddit character reference guide

I think it's kind of tricky when you are introduced to a few dozen characters. Especially when a lot of them aren't distinctive, or a lot of them have unfamiliar names...

I need to do another rewatch of Dark. Binged it twice already, but it's been a couple years or so. It's easily in my top 3 of all time.

Still would consider LOST my all time favorite. Just something about it that hits so well

dark's cast is MASSIVE. not only are there dozens of characters nearly all of them are played by 3 actors.

sometimes the show is intentionally hiding who is who and that's part of the joy when you discover that two characters are the same character. but typically the show wants you to know who is who and it can be difficult to keep them all straight. keeping them all straight is required if you want to enjoy the show.
