I'm actually doing main missions now. Just over 50 hours in and I did my first thing.

I like that the reporter understood Phil's answer was bs.

SWORDF1SH

Phil has got that punchable smarmy smug face.  >:(

Yeah I was surprised. Clearly didn't like his answer. Phil obviously can't say exclusive due to the whole case

No clue how good that is.

It feels not that great really.  Across series X and PC i was expecting a few million at least.  Maybe it will keep rising a lot, but seems like a pretty soft start, imo

I think there is some confusion.

It's players at one time/concurrent players, which is a very weird metric.

Usually it peaks the first weekend for a single player game. A little over a million would be the biggest single player game on Steam ever. Elden Ring topped out at 953k on Steam. I would imagine that topped out at 2.5 million when you add in PS4/PS5/XSX.

We'll have to see what Starfield pulls this weekend. A million on a Wednesday is a great number. A little meaningless sales wise.

the tweet clearly states "across all platforms" so this isn't a million on steam,.. it's a million on steam + xbox.

i dunno where to go to get the peak player count on steam.  i saw the post a week ago on era where it was like 250k or something.   that was only the players for the premium version though.

That's why I added in an estimate of other platforms...

It peaked at 270k on Steam.

You get them here:
Steam.Db charts

Again, these numbers generally peak over the weekend. 1 million on just Steam in the middle of the week would be absurd. I'm pretty sure only PUBG and Counterstrike do that.

1 million on a Wednesday is good, not amazing or record breaking. But very good.

It's #6 currently with 204k users at the moment. #34 highest peak ever with 270k.

it's interesting (to me) that it didn't really increase it's peak at all yesterday when the regular edition became availble.   i would not expect anything like a million but to go from ~250k to ~270k seems very underwhelming to me.

It's probably their biggest launch ever, but it might also not be as big as they expected.

QuoteBethesda's Todd Howard and Xbox head Phil Spencer have been on the interview circuit for the launch of Starfield, as part of which the pair granted an interview to Bloomberg Technology. While the questions have a more general business focus and veer into things like Game Pass and the Elder Scrolls 6 (no new info), the show starts with Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow rather starkly putting an audience question to Howard: "why did you not optimise this game for PC?"

"Uh... we did," says Howard, as Phil Spencer fails to suppress a chuckle. "It's running great. It is a next gen PC game, we really do push the technology, so you may need to upgrade your PC for this game, but it's got a lot of great stuff going on in it and the fans are responding awesome."

But just imagine the numbers they could be doing if it was on PS5.  They no doubt have lost out on so much revenue by not being on PS5.

I'm starting to feel like if this isn't as big of a seller as they hoped they will release on ps5 within a year or 2.
