I killed myself in the opening. Just threw me back to the main menu lol.

Was actually a nice touch. I really had to force my death but I was glad I could die.

Legend

Just got to space. It's really cool.

The robot spoke my name, just like fallout 4.

Legend

I understand some of the lower reviews. I've never played fallout so I expected skyrim in space, and it's not that at all.

It's more like Bethesda's take on Mass Effect. It's really really great but yeah it takes more than a few hours to acclimate.

They did screw up with the empty planets. They needed to make them actually empty. Instead you have random points of interest that take a while to run to. Some are just "there is an empty building here" and others are "fight pirates and go into a big robot lab to steal stuff before they do." The game can't decide if you should ignore or explore these empty maps.

I love so much about this game. Like I got too close to a chlorine gas vent and now I have lung damage. I randomly cough now which affects my stamina and would alert enemies if I was in stealth.

Earlier I broke my leg.

Haven't seen anything like that.

Only glitch/visual flaw is environment light not updating fast enough a few times. Makes everything look horrible for a few seconds until it bakes the night lighting. Only happened twice so far.

Legend

Had my first glitch. A random ship fused with mine for a few minutes which was funny in cutscenes. Then had a hard crash a bit after that when I went to travel.

The game is so incredibly good. I have 4 outposts now that are all working together. Cargo ships automatically move the raw materials around so I only need to visit one to top up on supplies.

Spent a long time in menus just trying to figure out how things work though. Like lubricant. I had some from exploring, but I don't yet know how to get more. It's not in my list for manufacturing. Thinking I might need to unlock v2 buildings.

Starfield has by far the best perks and leveling up system ever. Normally I just ignore points as they build up since all they do is decrease difficulty. In Horizon Forbidden west for example at one point I let ~100 points build up before I bothered to spend them. Yet in starfield, every single point seems so valuable. The second I get one I'm very very happy.

Legend

I have no clue how jumping from star to star is supposed to work. It shows fuel usage and talks about refueling methods but my ships are always at full. Just in general the star map is trash. You have to navigate it using the dpad yet there's nothing telling you this. I spent a dozen hours awkwardly using the sticks to navigate.

Pretty much everything about traveling is incredibly obtuse. I've gotten the hang of most things and the systems are perfectly serviceable but they're just boring menus. I think a menu/travel overhaul will be one of the more popular mods. Let people bookmark locations and fast travel to them without zooming around in the map screen a bunch. Or you could make it like Elite Dangerous and slow down the fast travel. Maybe it's just because I don't understand fuel and have only been to 5 star systems but right now I can fast travel for free from any point to any visited location.

Also wish inventory/item tracking was better. I have to fast travel a lot because I don't know what I have.

I haven't done a quest in such a long time, I'm just having so much fun building my outposts and existing within the world.

I think my new favorite thing is stealing ships from people. First I did space combat and won a pirate ship that way. The dead bodies were persistent so it was really fun flying around everywhere with them. There was also a stolen heart or something so then Mars arrested me for having contraband. It started a massive side quest that feels like it'd be the largest side quest in the game, and I just happened into it.

Later I found a ship on a planet. The owner was away and forgot to lock up. Was really thrilling as I sat in the cockpit and realized the game would just let me fly away with it.

Then just a few minutes ago I popped in to a nice civilian outpost. A big military ship was visiting too and just happened to not leave anyone onboard. So I could lockpick my way in and race off in their ship without getting in trouble. It has a massive cargo hold so that'll be super nice the next time I play.

Since I am doing so much random exploration, I also maybe found something before I was supposed to. The main quest is about finding these anti gravity artifacts and I found a planet with giant anti gravity artifacts on it. I expected my companion to having something major to say but she just acted like it was nothing special.

It's amazing how much the companions talk though. I still have the main woman from the tutorial part so maybe she's the only one this deep but it seems like at least a handful of other NPCs are just as important. The amount of dialogue in this game is just incredible. Sometimes a bit boring when they monologue but sometimes really great. I randomly found a ship in space that was chatting and said "see ya later" only for dialogue to not exit. I thought it was glitched at first but then the ship captain came back embarrassed talking about how their grav jump is super finicky.

It's really an incredible game. Fallout 4 was criticized as being dumbed down for the casual audience while Starfield feels like a love letter to their core audience. It's dense and intimidating like older Elder Scrolls games. In some ways they may have overcorrected from Fallout 4 hahaha. I hope they get a chance to make Starfield a series cause I'd love to see how it evolves.

I'm ~30 hours in, level 14. Over 100k in cash.

I'm sure the game will sell very well and they'll make a sequel in 10 years or so

Elder Scrolls after this of course, but I wonder if they'd do Starfield 2 before Fallout 5.

Otherwise 10 years seems optimistic!

Hehe I was trying to be pessimistic

Don't you think Microsoft will be able to help them push them out faster?

A game every 3-4 years is pretty good. Bethesda just has too many franchises now.

Maybe they can get multiple studios like cod. Have Fallout 5 made by a Bethesda splinter group.

I'm really loving the outposts/settlements but I fear I'm reaching the end of their gameplay loop. You get 1 xp for every item you craft and I can craft over a thousand items per visit (I do other things while my supplies restock). I can then turn around and sell those items for around $15k.

That feels like a lot of xp and money. Can't imagine the game expects players to optimize too much further.

Legend

Nope, a heck lot more to go.

It's a full dyson sphere program in here. Just hope I eventually get more tools to manage things. A few basic things are missing atm.

I expected outposts to be more human/npc focused but instead mine are all just machines. I hope humans have uses I just don't know about.

It's funny though just how much I love starfield. I even love the empty planets now. Bethesda probably should have improved the onflow for new players, but almost every "flaw" makes sense in the mid game.

I'm up to level 19. 180k cash and only a few main quests. Skyrim feels so small compared to this, but I wonder if it's an illussion. Can't wait to make it further and see what others have experienced.

nnodley

Welp I may start this up later. But maybe not. We will see how I feel in a couple hours. I may wait till the weekend to really dig into it
