Quote from: DerNebel on Feb 23, 2017, 06:37 PMWe can also just let this be the end of things, cause I don't see this going anywhere anyways.

Just let me say a couple more things.

For one the number of subscribers a channel has is a lot less relevant than the actually amount of traffic it still generates. The two that you've mentioned a couple times here have over 100k and over 600k subscribers, but the actual view counts for their uploads hover at around 15k to 30k for that Mundanematt dude and usually around 15k to 50k for Rebel Media, that is not to mention the huge amount of content that these two channels upload that has nothing to do with gaming or Gamergate at all, Rebel Media in particular seems to be a lot more concerned with Islam than with Gamergate at least nowadays and Mundamatts last couple videos are about Milo Yiannopoulos.

So instead of looking at a number of subscribers from channels that support Gamergate but don't really produce much content related to the topic of Gamergate, I'd rather look at platforms that specifically discuss Gamergate and take the discussions on those as the current state of the Gamergate community. If you can point me to other platforms where those discussion still take place and that are maybe considered more representative of what Gamergate is nowadays then I'm fine with looking into that, but until then I'm going to stick with what I have. That's why real movements have leading figures that represent them and actually make it clear which positions their movements hold and which they don't hold.

Also I don't need a video on what Gamergate started as, since I already have a decent general idea and since I've already said that the movement seems to have completely lost the plot.

Anyways, that's really enough on this topic, let's just leave it at that.
I'll try to keep my arguments as brief as possible:

The thing about MundaneMatt and Rebel Media was just used as an example of how not all GG supporters instantly dismiss a movie or game just because female protagonist. You missed the point.

The fact that GamerGate lacks a leader just shows that the movement has a wider variety of opinions than the average "real" movement because there no one person that everyone follows. This is why it is not advisable to generalize GG. And if you watched through Troy Leavitt's video, at 13:00, he mentions that GG went from putting video game journalists accountable to opposing identity politics.

However, even though the general direction has changed, there are still GG supporters who still adhere to the original goal. Deepfreeze.it, for instance, goes through which site and journalist are okay based on whether they disclose conflicts of interests or not. Oneangrygamer.net is another platform where the writer also writes about sites who do not disclose conflicts of interests, update their disclosure policies, or ignoring FTC standards.

And if you're curious, Sargon of Akkad held two livestreams, one with JonTron and the other with JonTron, Boogie, and Philip DeFranco. Part of both livestreams talked about GamerGate albeit briefly, though you probably don't want to watch them because they're each over 5 hours long, lol.

Indeed. And I'm sure they do much worse than boycotting games

HOLY shame!!!!  So good!  Might be location spoilers for some if you are not wanting to see anymore of the game.  I didn't think anything was too spoilery but that's just me.

Legend has 88, but we're waiting until a week after launch for the last reviews

So what do you guys think of the current rating system recently?  I know full well this game would have gotten a 9.6+ if this was mid PS3/360 gen.  Do you agree with the more moderate scores they've been handing out recently?

I absolutely agree with critics using the spectrum more, I just fear that there are certain games/devs where critics still inflate like they used to last gen. Zelda is a good example for that and I say that as someone that likes Zelda.

Btw. launch trailer

Yeah post release reviews always seem to push meta one direction or another.

I don't know if it'd have got a 9.6.

I think a lot of the "lower" scores this gen are because games are not as revolutionary. The lowest reviews for Horizon all complain about standard open world problems that have simply been ignored previously. Horizon sounds like it's a wonderful game but it's in a very tried and true genre.

Meanwhile look back at Uncharted 2 which got a 96. It was practically the first game to feel like a movie and inspired hundreds of "clones." I mean nowadays calling a game a movie is an insult but back then Sony's marketing literally advertised the fact it could be confused for a movie. I don't feel like we've been experiencing any of that this gen.

Except Metal Gear did it first.  Hell you can argue Snake Eater and Guns of the Patriot did it better.

If Edge gave a 9 there's no chance of it falling to 87 now.

It just got 3 100 scores added in a row!

Xevross

That's crazy. It has 9 perfect scores on meta now.

Wow! It jumped up about 55 places on the all time list and is super close to 89 again :o

This ain't over yet Legend!
