Man, I should just stay out of discussions on Horizon on certain parts of the internet and simply wait for reviews, seeing some people bend over backwards to shame on the game is just giving me a headache, lol.

Quote from: nnodley on Jan 30, 2017, 07:19 PMDecima engine is gonna be a game changer for Sony.  I think they will likely move a lot of their studios to it minus like ND or SSM.  It's by far the most impressive engine I have seen.  Not to mention from what i'm seeing and the amount of stuff rendering in this game it is by far the best looking game.  Maybe not in terms of full on realism, but what it's doing seems like it is gonna raise the bar for games going forward.
i like that it isn't full on realism.  all games, imo, should strive to look better than real life.  i like a bit of romanticism to how developers view the world.

Pretty much, the overreacting and flatout battleship I'm seeing in that reddit thread I posted earlier is just mindboggling. This people are just depressing with their "concerns".

Some were shitting on Horizon before the previews even came out, so I won't be surprised if they're the same people.

Of course, the things being said are all the same.

"Oh the writing is horrible"
"Oh the voice acting is horrible"
"Oh the animations during the dialogue scenes are horrible" (because if there's one thing open world games are known for it's their amazing character animations during their hundreds and hundreds of dialogue scenes, right?)
"Oh, the Tallnecks are like towers, this game is just like a generic Ubisoft game"
"It's not enough like the Witcher 3, Witcher 3 is perfect btw. if I could I would suck the Witcher 3s sucker"

witcher 3 is perfect. but just an FYI, witcher 3 has really bad animations at times during dialogue scenes. it has a lot of reused animations for different characters as well. didnt take me much to notice it. still the game was amazing.

Yeah agreed!  Horizon has a super cool over saturation of colors that make everything pop really well.  It's not overdone, but it's just enough to remove itself from being fully photoreal

I'm sure Witcher 3 is great, but yes I've also seen some of the reused animation, when I watched my roommate play. It's not like that's surprising, all these huge open world games reuse animations.

It's when I see people, that naturally never played Horizon, argue that its combat system, which is widely agreed to be one of the weakest parts of the Witcher 3, looks worse than the Witchers, that I get super annoyed. Or whem they apparently can't fathom the idea that there's a level between Witcher 3 and "total shame".

I can't believe you never played TW3. You should do so.. right now...

But yeah, even I, I huge TW3 fan will admit to sometimes poorly executed animations in dialogue sequences. In this genre, it doesn't really take much from the over all experience. This isn't uncharted or the last of us. TW3 did have it's voice acting spot on for the most part though, specially main characters. But as you said it's stupid to judge a whole game by just one cut scene.

As for gameplay, I haven't even tried horizon yet, but everybody who did so far is full of praise, and honestly it seems to have one of the most fluid combat systems of any open world RPG.

The complaints honestly seem to be unfounded for the most part, and done so by butt hurt fanboys

I might play the Witcher at some point, don't really have the time to play an over a hundred hour game right now. Too much on my table atm.

Some comments from the previews.

Polygon - "...a vast, open-world adventure that feels on par with the types of games Ubisoft has been making and refining over a decade-long period. And Guerrilla seems to have nailed the type of gameplay that will draw in fans of Far Cry, The Witcher, The Elder Scrolls, and Watch Dogs on its first stab at the genre."

Engadget - "I can't say definitively whether Horizon is a good game just yet. But after playing it for a few hours, I can say one thing wholeheartedly: I'm more excited than ever to play Horizon when it comes out on February 28th."

Arstechnica - "...Sony and Guerrilla let us dive into the apparently lengthy game from the start last week, with a four-hour long, go-to-town play session with the "near final" version of the game. After this extended slice of the game, I can't wait to play it again."

CNET - "I spent about 5 hours playing Horizon: Zero Dawn in an extended preview of the game's early stages and I'm thrilled to say that so far, the hype looks justified."

Nerdist - "After having spent over four hours in a dim room at a local L.A. gallery, the lights came on and I looked around; I was the last one with a controller in my hand. Despite the serious chunk of time I'd spent sitting in front of the screen playing Guerrilla Games' highly anticipated PS4 exclusive, Horizon: Zero Dawn, it felt like I had only just walked in and found my seat. It was as if the time had melted away. And I think most would agree with me in saying that's a good sign for a game."

Eurogamer - "On paper there's nothing hugely new here; fragments of games like Mass Effect, the rebooted Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher 3, and Far Cry Primal spring to mind. But Horizon does seem to deliver them in a voice that is uniquely its own. Plus, robot dinosaurs are just cool aren't they?"

I can't stand the complaints that people are saying that the game doesn't look like it's doing anything new.  But i've seen many previews saying they see parts of different games implemented but with slight twists on them.  That's perfectly enough for a first game.  Plus I honestly can't even imagine what new things they could do to the formula.  You know those people with those complaints don't have a single clue what to do to change it up but yet they spew that games need to.  If you can't think of it yourself or have at least a sliver of an idea then don't say anything.  At least justify why/what you want changed or different to validate your opinions.  Just saying "wow this game does nothing new, so it's gonna be boring and bland" just does not cut it.

QuoteNot feeling it.  Thematically different, but far too similar to open world action RPGs before it.

Like this post.  Like WTF do you even want different from other action RPGs? Say something to justify why you think it's "too similar".
