Quote from: Xevross on Dec 19, 2016, 04:46 PMYeah I'd agree with you, 500k in Germany points to way over 5m WW for sure. We know that in the US alone the U4 bundle sold about 800k in November. Without the bundling it wouldn't be anywhere near this popular but it is still very impressive.

While the industry as a whole has had a fairly bad year there's been quite a few success stories.
It's mainly because the AAA 3rd party software isn't performing as well as those from last year for a variety of reasons. Infinite Warfare wasn't received well leading to a 50% drop from Black Ops 3. Last year had Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront, both of which received massive marketing. Watch Dogs 2 was an improvement over the first game, but the damage was already done. Titanfall 2 was also a very good game, but EA decided to be dumb with the release date. It did show great legs in November NPD though.

I put less than 20 mil for switch.

So many people love it but I just don't understand the benefits of the device. I think it'll have one of the biggest system launches ever but then sales will quickly dry up. The controls look horribly cramped, the screen is really small for local multiplayer, the dock isn't travel friendly and limits TV play to a single location, and it's too large to be casually thrown in a pocket or bag. Plus the 3DS is having a resurgence thanks to Pokemon Go. That will steal some of the sales in the beginning and slow down the switch from replacing it. 3DS will keep getting exclusives long after switch releases.

...but I expect to be wrong. 2016 has been the year of Nintendo proving they know what they're doing.

Having read through the thread it's clear to me that a growing number of members on this forum don't actually care about having actual constructive conversations on the video games industry but would much rather have me or someone else post a sales number so they can gloat about their favourite console winning.

I don't think you read the same thread I did

What about saying absolutely nothing, releasing near absolutely nothing, killing their current hardware and barely attending major conventions which are for the sole purpose of the business they're in is Nintendo knowing what they are doing?

Yes they're doing all of those things yet are still having their best year in a long time. They're rewriting the playbook.

Nintendo economically knows that Wii u will do nonthing and the 3ds is fading.
But with putting interest into different areas(such as mobile) they are reinstalling the mindshare of their ip into the mainstrean. Yes money is very important for Nintendo but so is mind share. Pokemon go brought huge mindshare back to the main series(as shown by Sun and Moon's sales) and thats what Nintebdo wants for Mario as well. Now with the Switch we shall see but I do feel like the marketing and lineup will be less invisible and more apparent to casuals and gamers alike. So I am optimistic but we wont know anything. Just gotta enjoy the games and consoles anyway right?  :D

Nintendo ruling the holidays, somewhat decent drops for both Yakuza and FFXV, lower than average at least I think. TLG drops in line with most big games in Japan, which is especially disappointing if you consider the fact that everything else this week in the top 20 either got a week over week boost, or a lower than average week over week drop.
