A segment in the second half, he's like "people could do this, or they could do that."

Actually this is kind of what I mean.
QuoteDespite being in a (very rare) position to actually monitor "voter fraud" he had zero evidence, just the same stories that get gossiped about at the water cooler. One might think it is odd that an elections official appears to know nothing beyond what you would find on a clickbaity conspiracy site. He does not even cite some of the rare instances of actual problematic behavior.

Quote from: Legend on Oct 18, 2016, 05:59 PMYeah before mandating ID we really need to make sure every citizen can get one without problem.

Quote from: Aura7541 on Oct 18, 2016, 05:54 PMI know for some states, you can get an ID from the state government for $20. I think if ID laws are enforced while also giving citizens an accessible way to get an ID, then there shouldn't be much of a problem.
I had to go renew my ID card today, it expired a couple months ago. Had to pay 28,80€ for the new ID plus 10€ to get a temporal one until my new ID card is ready (there are no late fees anymore). That's how it works here, really don't see why it shouldn't work similarly in the US.

In a similar vein, are you required to register your place of residence with the state in the US?

Not really, but they do know once you do taxes. And that updates every year.

Lol, we have to register within 2 weeks of moving in.

Thats crazy.  We do/should change our adress on our state issued drivers/id cards. I moved 6 months ago and still havent done it.

Though it is not out of the question because the things he has described are certainly possible.

Here, New York does not require any documents for voting at the ballot.

I mean it's not like it's impossible to just not register, it's just that you'll be fined if they find out.

My mom used my mentally handicapped sister as a proxy vote. Yet, she denies voter fraud exists... She likes citing the fact that no studies found voter ID fraud in any meaningful way... Then I asked her how they discovered her proxy vote.

They really can. The bizarre, "it cost money to get an ID so it's like taxing out rights" argument is so ridiculous

The bigger issue is being able to get into a DMV or some other place.

There's literally a town with the DMV open only 4 days a year.

The vast majority can but there are still fringe cases where getting an ID is a huge mess.

I don't believe it. Every story I've heard of those few cases are literally just people unwilling to think of a solution

How is this supposed to help people who can't get a photo ID?
Plus, there are cases of people showing like 8 types of nonphoto ID, and spending like 300$ and still can't get an ID for whatever reason.

This guy for example brought a photo ID, birth certificate, and SS card and was denied because of a spelling error. He couldn't vote.
