I mean, Phantom menace, a movie that was garbage on all fronts except a nicely done fight scene at the end, has a hugely bloated score at 56%why can't we have a gta4 here that in a year everyone will say, "yeah, it wasn't that good and scored that high due to hype"

Someone should open a spoiler thread or link one so we can talk more openly
56% is pretty bad. 7 is at like 94%...but yeah, it's a conspiracy probably lol

It's gonna reach number 2 tomorrow, domestically.  :o

Second only to Avatar.

Yup, going to crush avatar in America.

Xevross

We knew it would be close but not quite this close.

Star wars fell $300k short of JW'S total for 2015, meaning JW was the biggest film of the year.

It's kinda funny that a huge film such as star wars won't top any yearly chart and in the future if you look back in history at the #1 films it won't be there.

Still, it's going to crush avatar domestically and get fairly close globally at this rate

Dr. Pezus

It will top titanic globally though. The question is how close can it get to avatar

I reckon that it will just make it pass Titantic. Might reach 2.2 or 2.3 bn if the legs turn out to be amazing

Well it should be at 1.5b+ after only it's third weekend with China still to come. Titanic is a certainty imo

The exchange is really unfavorable though for tfa compared to avatar so I don't see that as a strong possibility. It's doing much better in row than it seems in dollars

Xevross

Looks like Star Wars will be able to pass Avatar this weekend.

Good gravy, I wasn't expecting this to happen so soon, but yeah....  That seems almost certain.

That's freaking NUTS!!!!

It'll hit 700m faster than the 2nd fastest movie hit 500m.....
Star Wars - $686,425,583  (15 days)
Jurassic World - $500,373,390     (17 days)
Marvel's The Avengers - $500,415,495 (23 days)

I wonder if Avatar 2 will take it back?

~900 million is so huge!

I kinda expect Avatar 2 to do that.  Only thing is I expect it to take like a full year to do it.
Titanic and Avatar have such weird legs.  They don't really have very impressive numbers until you start looking long term.  In which case, they pretty much dominate.

ZhugeEX

Could theoretically be the first movie in the U.S. to cross $1 billion.

Movie Showdown

Week 1&2 Star Wars
Week 3-7 Avatar (No Star Wars entry yet.)
Week 8 - 34 Titanic

Titanic never broke a $40m, but it was still managing 20m weekends in its 10th week, while Avengers and JW only were doing 1-2m that week.  Was still hitting 1m weekends long after some other (bigger) movies stopped showing.

Dr. Pezus

Breezes past 1.5b

Easily has at least 600m left in it, especially with China remaining
