Oh god, you're right. Bloody hell are MS good at these spins! In that case it looks even more bleak. I'm trying to be the optimist in this thread but its hard to be optimistic with all these figures

Here's another thing about morons saying "b-b-b-but digital!!!!!" the online stats pretty much curb stomp that. People buying digital so they can "All play at 11pm" are the ones who are going to playing online... A full 9m hours of it.

To be fair, this is one of Microsoft's better PR moments. The company has said dumber things than this.

Like Legend I'm not too sure on that, this whole PR shows MS' compulsive need to always have Halo be the biggest, best, etc. in the series and industry all of which culminates in the profoundly dumb line about the games Metascore (you can be dang sure that they originally hoped this game would be the highest rated Xbox game or at least exclusive of the year, but since that didn't work out they settled for this). I'm not sure about you guys, but if MS just owned up and simply gave a straight number for Halo 5 software sales I would be happy as a clam and not say anything against that, even if that number was lower than past Halos. Halo is still a huge franchise, we all know that, so just stop your PR BS for once MS.

But since MS is too proud to do that, I'll instead look at what we can use to compare the game to past entries which is the amount of played hours apparently, which incidently happens to make Halo 5 look just as poor in comparison to past titles so nice oversight there MS PR.

i also think they mean shipped. because, they didnt actually say sell in, did they? this would make a big difference, specially for the hardware

They word it to say that on the first day it was 3.6m, and by the end of the week that it was 40m.  They're talking about online in the first half, including the offline in the second half would be deceptive.  
Which might be the case, but I don't think they had as much incentive to really do PR that trickily.  But I could very well be wrong on that.

Mathematically wouldn't make sense either. I'm assuming they used a full calendar week for Halo so hours played would be exponential growth. 1 day each user plays 3 hours. 1 mil people played. Next day each user played 3 more hours but you have 300k more people. Total played hours would be 6.9m. Next day each user played 3 more hours but 100k more people bought the game. You have a total of 11.1m hours played.

It's not the best selling Halo, unfortunately MS doesn't have the balls to admit that. But no worries, one more week and we'll have NPD to blow the door off of all that spin. Just for reference Halo 3 did 3.3 million in its first month on NPD, Halo 4 did 3.2. Another interesting part is that in the US alone over 243k Halo 4 special edition consoles were sold in the first month, that is sold, not shipped, this really gives an idea on what kinda dimensions we could be looking at with the special edition X1 here.... Oh but as soon as we'll get NPD you can be sure that the game will once again have a "huge" percentage of digital buyers.

Also in other news, what the heck is going on with the Amazon.com bestseller list, lol. What is all that Borderlands crud?
