There is one stat we can compare with Halo 3 / Halo 4.

You can see how the activity dropped from the releases... almost half of Halo 3 and Halo 3 activity was sp focused.

Isn't xbox one doing absolutely abysmal numbers in Germany compared to other European markets (that they aren't doing really well in there either)?

Reason I ask is because I'm trying to think what sales might be. If Halo 5 is 40% of Halo 4 in UK and Germany is worse market for them now than when Halo 4 dropped then I can see Germany being more like Japan and getting on 20% of Halo 4 numbers and less like UK.

I think you're probably right, there'll be a huge drop in Germany. I don't think it will have dropped too much in America though, which is important.

Read again. 40m hours was online play. 21m hours is total play (which... Dumbfounded me how they know this statistic)
