the only question, imo, is how long until switch 2 has a price hike.

I was able to get a Series S back in 2022 for $290 - traded it in at Gamestop for about $230 few months ago to get some money for my Switch 2 purchase.

Bought a Series X a year after Series S due to Amazon doing a holiday sale cut for $350 - so it was $150 off.

I'm glad I was able to get it because I wanted to play some of the legacy titles but my Xbox library has increased a lot since then.

gamepass drops in price: Game Pass Ultimate drops from $29.99 to $22.99 a month

it also removes call of duty titles at lauch.

so the price drops by $84 a year.   call of duty at launch should be $70.   seems surprisingly fair to me if these are the only changes.

I mean it's obvious how the math works out for CoD. But it still feels funny that a service with *googles* 400+ games, drops 25% in price by removing one of them.

CoD is a load bearing game.

Awesome!

Sucks for the people that bought it at $30 a month. Like imagine you just yesterday bought a bunch of game pass and topped up for the next three years lol.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/06/25/xbox-console-price-update/

"Effective August 1, 2026, we will be updating prices worldwide. The price of XBOX consoles will increase by US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models. We will also be sunsetting our 2 TB model."

"Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027."

QuoteToday we are also sharing programs to make XBOX consoles more accessible:

Buy Now, Pay Later: We've made it easier for players to use Buy Now, Pay Later options on eligible XBOX hardware purchases through Microsoft Stores, making it possible to break up your payment into predictable short-term, interest-free installments.
Interest Free Financing: Players purchasing eligible XBOX hardware through Amazon can take advantage of 0% APR financing for up to 12 months, giving players more flexibility with lower monthly payments and more budgeting control.
Previously Played Consoles: We are working with retail partners on new programs to provide previously played consoles at lower prices. Players who are ready to upgrade or no longer use their console will be able to trade it in with participating retail partners for cash or store credit. Those consoles will then be made available at lower prices for players.
Certified Refurbished Consoles: XBOX Certified Refurbished Consoles are available at Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP.

Glad I already own one.

Will be very interesting to see how next gen goes. Will prices fall post launch once this stuff rebounds? We could end up with one of the cheapest gens by the end of it.

Remember when $599 was an absurd meme price?

That's now the price of the Series S 1TB edition.

Microsoft is also implying that Xbox prices will continue to raise for the next year.

jfc.

the entire economy is going to be in a depression if things keep going like this.

how much is a phone these days?  5k?

..and I suppose we should expect more increases on ps5 and S2.   Sony really lucked out on where they are in the ps5 lifecycle.  S2 is going to greatly underperform S1.  ps6 should be paused until prices come down or consumers accept this massive inflation.

Funny these companies that are having to raise prices are part of the exact problem causing it. Doomed as fudge
