NoooOoOoo!!! The March dream is dead...

But seriously, this is an important game that could score huge points in the holidays for Sony next year. For their sake (and for me as well, I really want to play this) I hope they hit that window.

Edit: Also I find it pretty amusing that Gaf is taking this as confirmation that God of War can't be a 2017 game. I mean, I'm not saying that there's not a very real possibility that it isn't, but how is this confirmation? TLG was also only shown at E3 last year (they had this reacting Trico screen on the showfloor at other events but that doesn't count imo) and still releases this year. Not being at PSX doesn't mean a 2017 date is impossible.
first off, ill start with saying that that post above is illogical. the game has been in development for 3+ years now, and the reactions they had at E3 were great. so why on earth would they start all over again? obviously fanboy drivel.

second of all, i think this has nothing to do with development and what they can or cant show off of the game. but it more has to do with marketing and fending off the scorpio next year at E3. MS are going to show new hardware, and they are going to go all out on it. the "most powerful console" narrative will be driven hard, and you can bet your dog that Halo 6 will be announced, and announced as a scorpio launch title. to fend off the hype of a 6 teraflop machine, halo 6, oculus support, and VR Fallout plus what ever they got in store will take a lot. so i am guessing they are keeping as much as they can for E3. so i personally expect a shaming PSX as a result. they already have a lot of their big hitters announced. GTS, Horizon, GoW, Death Stranding, Detroit, Days Gone, TLG. what they have for E3 is limited, thats why i expect TLoU2 to be announced at E3 next year.

I mean there's still Sucker Punch as well as a possible Bloodborne sequel that can be revealed at E3 (+ maybe a certain Sony Japan JRPG, even though I feel like that is nothing but a pipe dream at this point), that in combination with blowouts on God of War, Spiderman etc. would definitely make for a good show to fight against the Scorpio. However I think just showing the games at E3 isn't going to be enough, they also need to have them ready for when the Scorpio is coming. I've been repeating this a couple times now, but I absolutely believe that the second half of 2017 is going to be the most important period of this generation and the point where a huge turnaround can happen if Sony isn't there 100% at their best.

And yes in regards to that Gaf comment, that doesn't make sense on so many levels, SSM has been on a hiring spree since before God of War was revealed because they were going into full production or whatever and now after the hugely successful reveal you're telling me they are starting over? That doesn't add up at all.

We'll see about PSX, I'm still very much optimistic about it, even if only because of the rumoured reveal of the UC4 single player DLC.

And i agree, next holiday will be crucial, specially if scorpio comes out at 450$ or less. having GoW and Spiderman release next holiday would be really big for Sony. as well as having momentum from Horizon and GTS. Next holiday Sony has to go all out, to keep MS at bay. because MS are going all out as well.

I like how you guys are talking like it's even a contest anymore.

Things can take a turn for the worse in such a short time. We saw this from the PS2 -> PS3 and 360 -> XB1. Never, ever take the video game market for granted.

Yeah, complacency and hubris have taken gaming companies down from the top more than once already and Sony has definitely shown signs of both throughout the last couple years. If Sony starts falling behind the competition in these next couple years or when the next generation starts then it'll be because Sony decided too often that they could just wing it or thought that they were too good for certain things and not because the competition was doing things that Sony just couldn't compete with.

Sony has more than enough games on their plate that they could imo easily blow the competition out of the water with them, but those games have to actually release sometime and can't just be dangled in front of everybody for years (seriously, I don't believe it is, but IF that Gaf comment about GoW is true then that'd be a huge fudge up for instance) and a lot of their other shortcomings are based on simple policy problems and are completely in Sonys hands to change.

It hasn't really happened during a generation though.

Mid-generation refreshs haven't really happened in a generation before either. There's a first for everything.

But the simple point is: Don't get complacent, even if it might not hurt you right now, it can still have negative longterm effects.

Looks like that random person was spouting a bunch of nonsense.

Lol, they are not "starting from scratch". The E3 demo was of course very scripted. Cory even clarified that it's not technically in the game (the way the demo unfolds). It's just a huge game, systems are being implemented. After Darkside got completely scrapped, there's a lot of pressure to deliver.

 Time to make the game.

Man it's completely absurd how some people on Gaf are trying to read into this comment.

Edit: Btw. there was some Sony guy on the most recent 8-4 Play podcast from Giantbomb and he said there'll be a lot of japanese surprises at this PSX, so that's cool.

DerNebel

Insomniacs Spiderman game is not affected by the voice actor strike, whew.

Kerotan

Sony are releasing ps4 pro and psvr.  I wouldn't call that complacent.  I'd call that smart business.

Some people just love to jump on the controversy wagon before checking on the validity of a random person's comment.
