Quote from: DerNebel on Dec 24, 2015, 02:31 PMFor the next 2 weeks Driveclub plus the Season pass are 13€ on the EU PS store, I think it's time that I'll cave in on that.
Definitely do it. Even at full price its the best value season pass out there. Its absolutely amazing and I'm totally shocked they haven't released a second season pass tbh

Quote from: kitler53 on Dec 24, 2015, 03:21 PMmanaging and cordinating a team of 1000 is like a million times harder than a team of ten which is the real source of schedule delays.  so the change in fidelity has everything to do with delays these days.
Sorry, I'm just waking up.
My point was the following:
-There are lots of difficulties any manager can't really do anything about.  "Push faster"  "Well, that's easier said than done..."

First guys struggling, pass it off to the next guy.   The next guy spends time figuring out what he's supposed to do instead of actually doing it.  Or maybe he looks over the other guys work, and then makes the same mistakes.

-Despite the fact that fidelity has gone up greatly  (not sure how we can really measure it, but considering all factors a 1,000x-10,000x jump is perfectly reasonable in my mind.  Nathan Drake alone has more details than entire games back then...) The amount of time has only doubled considering all the things that are making it easier.
------Not that fidelity hasn't changed anything.  It just hasn't (obviously, it never would)   made the difference as big as it should be.  1000x higher fidelity with only 400x the man hours.  And quite frankly I think 1000x is low.

Quote from: DerNebel on Dec 23, 2015, 11:39 PMYes and during the PS1 era these 10 people could pump out a new game in sometimes less than a year, whereas nowadays even 200 people teams need 2+ years. Make no mistake, the difference is massive.
My point was, that due to large development teams and other factors, a game only takes ~2x as long.  Even considering the differences in fidelity, the difference is not 1:1, because of the variety of advantages.

I'd also argue that the reason development times can get so long is because they can afford to make them that long.
GTA V could have come out in 2 years in some manner, but instead they chose to spend a lot more time on it to make it the game they wanted it to be.

Quote from: DerNebel on Dec 23, 2015, 11:39 PMAs for the bolded, that's not true and you know it, you could at best say that a game can't be officially delayed if no release date or window has been announced but internal delays can and do still happen. I mean do you seriously believe that NMS was initially aiming at a June 2016 release? No of course not, that game might have originally been aiming at a freaking 2014 release date.
It's effectively true.  Yes, internal delays can happen all the time without any public announcement.  Without a public announcement, you aren't going to hear anything about it though.  We can't really pick up any sort of statistics on this matter, because we aren't going to get much information.
Every game in history could have been delayed internally, we just don't have any information on that matter.

When are we going to hear about a delay?  95% of the time, it's only when it's been announced.

These types of things are very complicated, and they basically have classes about this topic.

There are life cycles of software where they basically analyze every step.

Quote from: DerNebel on Dec 23, 2015, 11:39 PMAnd sure the time it takes to make a game influences how much it can get delayed, if you can pump out a whole game in 9 months with a handful of people, then how much can you actually misjudge yourself?
You can misjudge yourself quite a bit.
Heck, VizionEck is made by one guy and was planning on releasing it a year ago.
2014 release, now a 2016 release.

He thought he could do better.
He originally misjudged what he wanted VizionEck to be, and thus greatly expanded on it and he's doing some very cool things.

Quote from: DerNebel on Dec 23, 2015, 11:39 PMEdit: Oh and since this whole conversation started with ND, I'd like to remind people that prior to this ND has only ever delayed 1 game and that was TLOU by about 6 weeks, they've now delayed UC4 twice and overall by at least 5 months now. You're really just ignoring reality if you're telling yourself that this hasn't been getting worse in recent times.
Eh, there are many indications that this game was supposed to come out in 2012. That would be a 6 month delay.
They announced the game late 2011.  Do you really think they were planning on it coming out in 2013?
Particularly considering that Uncharted 4 was likely rebooted, 5 months isn't bad, and it's far less than TLoU.

Is it getting worse?  Yes.
Games are more likely to get announced because the internet is more social.  Game events like E3 are a lot bigger and people want things announced, and things end up getting announced long before they should have been.
Games are getting more complicated, all things considered, despite the added complexity, time complexity is not outrageous.

Do I care?
No.  I don't care, as long as they are working hard to make it the best game they can make.  If they release a poorly executed game that's been delayed for 2 years, then I have to wonder.
If Naughty Dog delays a game for 2 years, and it ends up being the best fricken game of my life, I'm not going to give any crud that it was delayed.

Vizioneck only has 1 person and has been delayed.

doesn't count.  unmanaged scope creep and sheer laziness.

The Order's strongest points are the graphics and music. On the other hand, it's really short and a game that short needs a great story. However, the plot wasn't all that inspiring. Gameplay is solid, but the guns need more variety.

Mmm_fish_tacos

psn down for anyone else?

Never mind I got on. I had to spam the sign in button a few times. Looks like a lot of ps4's going on line at the same time is making it wonky.

i honestly loved the order. the gun play was great. yes, it was short but to me it was the only fault. at ten bucks i would recommend.

Quote from: the-Pi-guy on Dec 25, 2015, 09:43 PMHow's that?
The games story was dumb and forgettable, which is pretty huge problem for a game priding itself on being cinematic etc.
