I can't emulate PS2!

Let alone a gamecube.  :(

Quote from: darkknightkryta on Aug 31, 2016, 09:04 PMI'm trying to figure out the best, smallest, cheapest, and easiest to make/use emu box.  Up to PS2 and Dreamcast (Maybe even Gamecube :o).  I want it to be portable.
Best bet is probably the AMD A10-7890K.

How portable are you talking?

It can.  They're just a pain to setup.  It also doesn't help that a Pi with an enclosure and sd card isn't much cheaper than a lenovo ideacentre 300.  Plus I'm trying to find a machine that runs demul well.

Pi can't run PS2.  ^

Maybe it can :P.  I haven't tested it.  Though Dreamcast "runs" on it.  Not sure if there's frame dips or not.  It was hard to tell because of the pal issues nulldc was outputing.  It does't do Demul though.  I love the case you posted!

The general consensus is that emulation isn't doable.  Maybe in like 5 years, a Pi will be able to pull it off.
You could probably build that PC for about 350$, and it should even be able to run PS2 games (with graphics options turned down.), easily handle Dreamcast.

It'll do more than run PS2 games XD.  Pi 3 can do Dreamcast.  Though I'm not sure if the A10 can acutally handle Demul.  Demul kinda brute forces the tile engine from the PowerVR GPU.  It's very slow and needs a pretty powerful GPU, it's actually slower than the PCSX2.  Though I like the machine.  I wonder if the A10 can run current games at 720p/1080p at fluid frame rates.  *Runs to anandtech*

XOTIC PC | ASUS GL551VW-DS51 - 15.6" w/ NVIDIA GTX 960M Notebook

Eluktronics N151RD1 Pro Premium Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i5-6300HQ Quad Core Windows 10 Home 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 15.6" Full HD IPS Display 128GB Performance SSD + 1TB HDD 8GB DDR4 RAM - Newegg.com
Pretty much the only notable difference is the top one has a much better CPU, while the bottom comes with an SSD.
Personally would go for the first, even if they cost the same.  But other people much prefer having the SSD.

The Asus also has more video memory. I guess I can replace the DVD drive with an SSD if I feel like it. I rarely use the DVD drive if ever.

I missed that, so I would take the Asus

Just purchased the Asus laptop. The 120 SSD and 1TB HDD were on sale, so I went with that configuration for just an additional $55. I'll finally have a competent PC after spending years with a weak dog Asus UJ36C.
