It's the same review sites. So it can't be. These sites don't hold reviewer accountable for their actions. Theres no way you can justify giving this game a 20 or 1 on their scale. And that presents another problems with meta sites.
only way it works is if every reviewer used 5 stars. However... Not sure how this game would be justified in getting the lowest of the low scores. The same as the most broken and boring games. 1. God awful, unplayable buggy mess. 2. Bad and boring. 3. Nothing bad but doesn't stand out (which sounds like what that guy was saying lol) 4. Enjoyable and we'll made game. The quality distinguishes itself from others. 5. A gem. Masterpiece.

Even then each sites stars mean something else

"The thing I'm worried about is that these reviews are going to send the wrong message to publishers. Instead of sending the message that maybe you should try to liven up the gameplay mechanics, the message is going to going to be that no one likes SP narrative games anymore. The message is going to be if we try to make a AAA story driven SP experience, we are going to get shame reviews and nobody is going to buy it unless we water it down and fill it with busy work filler content, unlockables, skill trees, leveling guns, and a tacked on MP mode filled to the brim with microtransactions along with an aggressive DLC release schedule.

This line of thinking is the same reason why I'm struggling to play through Alien:Isolation because they felt like they needed to make it a 20-hour experience instead of a 10-hour one and why playing Dragon Age Inquisition at this point for me feels like work because it is filled with so much time-wasting, game-padding, filler-laden battleship side content."

This is also why I don't have Alien or Dragon Age yet. Give me more quality instead of just putting lots of filler into it to add to the quantity.

Btw even if we threw out all the low scores it will still be a low meta for the game.

The twenty drags it down a full point. While the other three only drag it down by two points. So take all 4 out then you get a 69

I can tell I'm going to agree more with the high end reviews than the mid tier and especially the low end ones

Using gamerankings as the source. I'll throw out all reviews that aren't within 50% of the current average. So it's at 64.44% right now. That makes the bottom cut off be 32.22% and the top is 82.22%. These determine the outliers.

Final tally of reviews is:

82.00%
60.00%
70.00%
40.00%
76.00%
60.00%
70.00%

65.00%
80.00%
81.00%
55.00%
75.00%
65.00%
60.00%

That averages to 63.39%. Worse than including everything.

How about if we just try to inflate it and remove everything 40 or below?

That averages to 67.77%. By just removing low scores, it barely affects it.

Let's take out all the ones below 80.

Ludicrous Speed

Looks like my 70-75 prediction was too generous.

I don't think anyone was expecting it to have a poor story as well. That really brought it down.

Xevross

It may not have a poor story! I can't wait to play it for myself tomorrow. Seems like my kind of game...well I hope so at least :P

Poor story as in it ain't no Uncharted or Last of Us. Great by regular game standards, just not good enough for being such a cinematic game.
