Started watching the 15 minute one.

Haha Derek Smart. Stopped watching there. I have no clue of his involvement with GamerGate, but as an indie dev he's not really the best at being honest and truthful.

From the four minutes I watched, the video presented things as I already understand them. I've been following GamerGate since the start. There are lots of good and smart people fighting for better ethics in the industry.

I'll finish up the video later.

Though what has Derek Smart not been honest about? If he has been dishonest about his products, for instance, then that's irrelevant towards his opinions about GamerGate as they aren't related to each other. It's like me saying a KKK neo-Nazi's calculation of 2+2=4 is wrong because he's a racist terrorist.

Derek Smart is more or less a pathological liar who over promises and under delivers. He bans people on steam who find his games buggy and organizes campaigns against games he's competing with, trying to get them shut down. He's not a voice of reason and not a reliable source for information.

I will admit that the example I provided was too extreme, but I can easily come up with another example that is not extreme.

To play devil's advocate, the problem with your argument against Derek Smart is that it's based on ad hominem (not to be confused with insulting people). While the stuff you said about him is true, you're attacking the person's character rather than his points. He could be right in spite of his shady character, who knows? However, stopping the video when it's his turn to talk doesn't help.

But dang... Derek Smart is pretty much the Randy Pitchford of the indie industry

Ah, I see. I never heard of Derek until I ran into the debate, so I didn't have any pre-existing impressions on him. After you described what a s****y person he is, I do have suspicions that he's doing this for PR. After thinking about it more, Derek is a hypocrite because he's doing the same things some anti-GG people are criticized for doing: censorship and libel. I think I'm going to actually retract my ad hominem claims.

He's banned for a month and is one more moderation away from a perma. I don't think he really deserves it because he's not a combative person. There are other users (whom I'm not going to name) on that forum that are far more deserving of a perma.

I don't mind having him here. I appreciate his energy

Have to agree.  While he is over dramatic at times and gets frustrated he's a sound person.  

When you see those 2 or 3 people who've been sitting on everything Sony recently it makes you wonder about the moderation process.  Gotten to the point where I find it funny and not sad.  The agenda is so obvious.
