The Resistance Franchise Could Make Its Return On The PS4

Sony earlier today filed a trademark claim for "Resistance" which was previously being developed by long time Sony partner and now third party developer Insomniac Games. IG let go off the franchise after the poor sales of both Resistance 3 on the PlayStation 3 and Resistance Burning Skies which was PlayStation Vita exclusive and said the future of the franchise would be in the hands of another development team. There has been no further development as of right now of what this trademark could mean but its very possible that we may see Resistance return in some form or fashion to the PS4. Time will tell if Sony will remaster and re-package the Resistance Collection with Burning Skies for the PS4 or find/create another studio to develop another entry in the franchise.

It's just trademark protection. Wouldn't read too much in to it as is.

However, Resistence should be done anyway. It's old and worn. With ig gone I feel a new ip would be much better. Plus sci fi shooter plots aren't hard to come up with.

We land an exploration team on an alien planet, only to find out they're hostile. You need to shoot your way through them and get off the planet.

A science experiment goes horribly wrong, sending the whole city back in time 1,000 years. The game takes place a few hundred years after that as the future and past societies both intermix and wage war. Guns are like steampunk, but more medieval.

An asteroid is approaching earth. Doomsday is coming. Humans flee to Mars. With Earth destroyed, gueralla warfare breaks out on the red planet as each faction fights for resources and survival.

Post apocalyptic society ruled by robots. No humans remain. A group of robots find a gene vault containing the DNA of every life form that used to exist. The robot overloards think it should be destroyed, while this small group thinks it should be used to bring back life. The robot rebellion begins, and you play as a robot fighting back and protecting the dna.

The sun has a strange anonamly, causing most people on Earth to become mutants. The uber rich are able to stop the mutation from occuring, thanks to expensive medical procedures. Naturally the rich and normal humans start to think of themselves as "pure," and have the power to oppress the mutents. Mutant rebelions are often but short lived. Hundreds of years go by. You as the player are a mutant that looks normal, but can predict 1 second into the future (and revert time to checkpoints after dying). You lead the new rebellion. Game includes lots of stealth since you can blend in with the pure.

Post apocalyptic world where aliens have built a base on Earth. You are the military leader of the base, and have to keep fighting off the local fauna. One type of fauna is intelegent and the main enemy. Spoiler, those creatures are what remains of humans.

Aliens (mole people) from within the planet emerge and we fight back. Think gears of war, but the enemy is more human like and has their own underground cities.

You are the first man to go on a mission to the far reaches of the stars. It's a single person one way trip to test hyper drive. You end up going way farther than expected and pop up within an alien space war. Your craft is beamed aboard. Your physical features make them think you're part of a prophecy, so you're treated like a god. Eventually you help these people fight against the other aliens.

Lol I kinda like some of those ideas. Copyright 2015 VizionEck LLC. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

I wouldn't mind if they tried another military shooter. I haven't seen to many games try to have a war going on while you complete your objective. The first Resistance and MGS 4 are the only games I've seen try it.

I really like this idea.

Guerilla Cambridge is doing a reboot

That's my guess.

I'd like that, actually.

I'd rather Sony spend money on a more popular or iconic franchise. That being said, I wouldn't mind a fresh story in the Resistance universe. Perhaps something set far into the future.

i hope they don't.  resistance has no clout with gamers.   either do a new IP and hope for better results or better yet,.. have insomniac make more rachet and clank.  i like those games.   either way sony doesn't need more shooters,..  naughty dog does an excellent third person shooter and GG does a better first person shooter (allthough killzone could be up for dying too).

sony should really look into genres that they don't do well yet.  rpg.  kart racer.  fighter.  ect..

R&C is a shooter of diminishing popularity too. Difference is that the last Resistance was great while the last few R&C games haven't been great.
Also, R3>Any Killzone game
Regarding other genres: RPG (Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, exclusive JRPGs), kart racer (LBP Karting, Modnation Racers), fighters (PSASBR)

R3 sucked. It was just really good in comparison to the second.

I played r2, but never finished it. I played r3, but never got past the begining. I played r:bs, but only made it half way.

Meanwhile I've beat Killzone 3, shadow fall, and mercenary.

Killzone is much better, and resistence is just meh. It feels like an early PS2 game. BS was the best imo.
