It's certainly possible, but determing what news is worth posting would be hard.

Imagine we were to poll google for news.  How would one figure how to always separate rumors, actual news  and faux news? 
Working from a few select sites would improve things, but then we'd likely get multiples of everything. 
It'd be difficult to separate new information and newly worded information. 
Even working within a single site could cause problems. 
If say IGN, how would one separate featured blogs and articles.  And then you'd have to make sure that videos weren't posted, and what would you do about reviews?

Well, allow the user to choose what he wants and maybe allow only 2-3 news to be posted per day from the same source. Then the mods will delete multiples, if any, and users can adjust their criteria to try to avoid multiples in the future. Would give the mods something to do lol

A weekly summary is definitely coming back though. This time around it'll have a lot more info in it too.

I like the idea so here's what I'm thinking:

The Machine checks every hour or so neogaf, reddit, vgchartz, and other forums you'd suggest. It finds new threads that have had significant posts in a short matter of time. You know, make sure the news is interesting. Then it checks to see if the thread is actually news or not.

If it determines it is indeed news, it then goes to the original source of the news and posts snippets from the article.
