What do you want your Forum bots to do?

By far the coolest feature of forum 2.0 is a personal bot for every user. These aren't gimmicks like The Machine, but powerful workers capable of near everything.

Right now I have them focused on modifying posts. Once you make a new reply, your bot rushes in and starts fixing things on your behalf. One example is that it fleshes out bare/lazy links. If you post "omg http://ramdom.com/news/magic.php?action=new-game-announced-from-Rockstar" then your bot can fix that to "omg Rockstar announces brand new game." Your bot might even select a few choice quotes from the link and post them as well.

Another example(yet to code this one so it might be scrapped) is your bot automatically converting tweets in image form to actual embedded tweets.

Or you could accidentally post a private image that we can't see. Your bot could go in and try to find an open image for you, or else alert you that the image link is bad.

I'm wondering how else you'd like to see them help out?

Also would you like the ability to customize your bot? Give them a name, avatar, etc? You will of course have options regarding the bots operations themselves, including disabling it completely if your a kook or something.

Grammar checks on posts?

Doesn't your browser already do that?

I think the most that could be done would be very basic grammar checking, mostly spell check with corrections.  It's an AI problem.

Look at Google translate, even though it has a lot more work put into it, it still isn't great.  With all the arbitrary inconsistent grammar rules,it's difficult to make a system that works in most cases, let alone all.

Ugh, then I'll have to continue putting up with bad grammar :(  ;D

Applauds show up right on the post itself now. No need for a central category.

Genious!

a roll dice/ rand bot commands could be a fun feature... could use to say declare a victor between 2 users arguements

ie: @botAI judge @pezus  @ethomaz

(post) botAI: I hereby declare ethomaz the victor in the discussion between Pezus and ethomaz because (rand reason based on rand result)

I've got it set up so that the bots will make thumbnails of overly large images. Then if a user wishes it, these thumbnails are shown and the full image is not loaded until the thumbnail is clicked.

In quoted posts the thumbnail would show for all users, until being clicked.

Save some bandwith for mobile users, and help out for when pezus decides to use a 4k avatar ;)

Yeah that could be cool.

Also I've decided to integrate these bots with The Machine. Having a single and central intelligence will feel better than a hundred scatterbrains.
