From what we know, the game originally featured Mario, so there is a connection there.

It does look like it'll be fun but unfortunately it is on WiiU so it won't have the impact MK did. If it was released on Wii a few years ago then there would have been a bigger potential for sales

I think it was originally suppose to be a Mario featured game but they decided to make it a new IP.
