Funny thing, anytime people brought up there would be no major difference between ps4 and ps3 and there is no use owning next gen systems and all those battleship arguments I always told them that it might not seem like there are big differences because they will be harder to spot but there will be better physics and particle effects which will make big differences

hey, I was one of those (sort of). When Uncharted first came out, I didn't think graphics could possibly get any better.... Then Uncharted 2 came one. Then Uncharted 3. Then the last of us. After that, I made sure not to judge a generation after the first year of games.

Yeah. Some people don't learn. You can expect the same criticisms at the start of the next generation. Though one thing is for sure, the closer we get to photo-realism the less obvious the improvements will be. I suspect we're at the point now where end of the generation games won't look as good next to the beginning of it when compared to how things turned out last gen.

"Diminishing returns" as far as game graphics go are mostly a joke. Like Crysis is pretty old by now, but still look at these pictures.






It's so incredibly obvious which photos are real and which are fake, even at these ridiculously low resolutions and image qualities. Or look at Infamous Second Son and a real photo.



At flipping 150p, it's still easy to tell which is which.

...I'm going to assume you're being serious. To be honest, at those image sizes I'd be hard pressed to tell you the difference. Especially if I didn't have a real image to compare them. Plus, considering Crysis is over 7 years old now and it represented the best for its time for a developer that actually wanted to put the work in on visuals, that's pretty dang impressive. For the most part I can still tell the difference between real and not but that is going to become harder as time passes.  I mean seriously. Take those same kind of shots from the best that the previous generations had to offer and tell me it doesn't become increasingly difficult to tell the difference.
