I don't watch tv shows on disc but movies auto resume where you left off. Shows don't work the same?

some do. some don't.   

applies to both TV and movies. with TV it only ever works if there is a "play all" option.   i've watch a lot of Star Trek lately and they make you pick individual episodes.

A lot of this is dependent on your player, but apparently some discs override the player's ability to make bookmarks. 

yeah.  most of my disc watching is holiday stuff.  I think they must all employ the override because almost none apply the override.   

Arthur Christmas stands out as the only one that resumes to the end of the movie every year.

It's weird to think how very quickly with llm smart homes this will be an issue of the past. It'd just override the override and play the episodes for you exactly how you want.
