Like it's crashing or something?
For a while, it's been freezing probably a few times every few months.

Past month or so, there have been a more serious instances where it wouldn't fully boot into the OS afterwards. It would just load into a command line. Had to do a few software repairs.

It's been relatively stable since I removed one of the RAM sticks.

The other stick isn't very good either, but it's been relatively stable. I'm 90% sure that the motherboard is also an issue.

So probably next weekend, I'm going to completely take those parts out.

I bought new RAM, new motherboard. I'm also going to upgrade the SATA hub/HBA card.

So I decided to play some short games in between my long playthroughs as a palette cleanser.

I made a thread on ResetERA about this and got recommendations: https://www.resetera.com/threads/recommendations-for-short-1-5-hour-games.1398469/#post-149723119

Anyone wanna recommend me some short games (doesnt have to be on Steam, can be on Switch, Playstation, and Xbox , got all the platforms) but chances are a lot of the games I would have on Steam , mainly indie titles I would like to knock them off my backlog lol.

So far I've tried out Venba which I really enjoyed but I did try out Frog Detective 1....and its bad lol, like the writing/story was so cringe.

i'm playing tunic right now.  it's good.

recent games i've played:
5 dates - i liked it.  can be super short if you want it to be.
sword of the sea - best game since journey from the developer imo.
viewfinder - a decent puzzle game but not as exciting as i hoped

from your list:
swapper.  highly recommend.
fez is mandatory to be played.  you're not a real gamer if you have never played it.
Gorogoa was okay but nothing special.
stray is pretty good.   not greatest game ever or anything but it was pretty fun just playing a cat.

Best part of the game for me lol.

HDDs seem like they're getting hit hard by the AI stuff. I ordered a 20 TB drive (though I'm going to add it to the RAID, so only 18 TB will be usable for me. But that was the best deal to get.

Think I'll try to get 1 more...

Think that would put me at 126 TB of usable space.

I was looking into building a NAS late last year.  newegg has a NAS builder I thought was nice.  they had probably at least 100 options.  I got into indecision paralysis and kind of thought things were too expensive.

looked earlier this year and there are like maybe 12 options and they are way more expensive.

no NAS for me at these prices.

Yeah. It's probably going to be a rough year or two.

I'm just trying to keep my stuff going.

Shocked!

HDDs are getting so ridiculous.

Seagate IronWolf Pro 20TB at $349 a good deal right now?

This was only 8 months ago, and some people were saying you can find a better deal.

This same drive, now costs over double. $720

Ouch. I was maybe in the market.

I guess though, nowadays it really is cheaper to just use the cloud for backups. A dollar a month is going to be way cheaper than an hdd.

you're not backing up 20 Tb of data for a dollar a month...

...i was looking into a NAS in part because cloud storage pricing is quite exponential.   it's pretty cheap if you only have a few Gb of data but once you cross the 100 Gb mark the ramp up in pricing is pretty drastic.

--- edit ---
just looked up google's pricing.  20 TB is $100 per month.   so even at today's absurd hardware pricing the payback period is 7 months.

I kind of think it might be the end of me putting native quality onto HDDs.

Unless things stabilize in a few years.

I was thinking archive storage cause that's what i use for backups, but yeah still $25 a month. More than I realized.
