It'll be a while before I watch it.

But I've been seeing a lot of buzz about it on YouTube, ResetEra, Reddit. Much more than I recall seeing with season 1.

My sister keeps recommending it, but the ads look lame.

Paradise was really great. One episode was just perfection.

White Lotus is ok this season.

I've watched the first season of Game of Thrones, a little into the second season.

I think I was expecting the show to be more like Lord of the Rings, but I really think it's the anti-Lord of the Rings in a lot of ways.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Lord of the Rings is more about good guys going on an adventure against the bad guys. It's a wholesome adventure where the main characters are honorable good guys.

Game of Thrones is more about the terrible stuff, and most people really suck. There's more politics, there's more naughtiness and violence.
I'm still enjoying the show, but not at the level I was hoping.

Haha yeah it's nothing like lotr, outside of setting.

I loved that about it, but yeah. Very dark and everyone sucks in one way or another.

what makes game of thrones great is:

1. you can never be certain of what is going to happen next. no matter how developed and loved a character is that character could be killed off. it makes it exciting to read compared to things like harry potter where no matter how "dangerous" the situation got you "just knew" harry would pull though. of course he'd pull though because it's the hero of the story.

2. i think the term i want to refer to here is the "tragic flaw" (which i learned about in context of Shakespeare). every character in GoT is very well developed with a unique personality supported by a robust backstory. although some of the choices those characters make can feel cringe they always feel perfectly in line with what the character would do even when it leads to their demise. E.g. Ned Stark was beholden to "honor" and lead to a series of choices that lead to his death.

that said, i've read the books. the show wasn't nearly as good. firstly because the show didn't have the time to really flesh out the backstory of the characters like books do. but even moreso the back half of the series didn't have books to draw from. the writers of the show didn't fully understand my #2 and they have characters make decisions wildly out of their character. they also didn't understand #1. bringing back jon snow was clearly out of fan service.

How the heck is that show still on?

It can't still be good. When I stopped watching many years ago it was already so repetitive.

It got signed up for basically 7 seasons after the 3rd season.
It's still rated somewhat highly, but it's not getting as many viewers.

I've been watching this anime Hyouka.

It's a show where they solve mysteries through deductions. It's more like 12 Angry Men than something like Sherlock, where the main driver is just having a conversation. It's not amazing (like 12 Angry Men), but it's pretty good.

Season 2 starts on sunday. Quick! Talk about season 3!

I'm guessing season 2 premiere is gonna be one of their biggest premieres ever.

What's it about?

It's an entire 15-hour shift in an ER in Pittsburgh. Each episode is 1 hour of the shift. It is incredibly well done, and the acting is phenomenal. Noah Wyle leads.

Cool, wasn't expecting Fallout to get a release.
