1. it took a surprising long time for people's muscles to "degrade" while taking a break.

This one I think has gotten a lot of bro science kicked in where all the people on gear/steroids/TRT say you'll so much muscle and strength within weeks of not working out.  Like duh when you are on enhancements of course you will.  But to the normal person it will be pretty miniscule.  And like the next point was, it's pretty easy to gain it back.

The Instagram model/perfectionism of the human body is ruining the workout industry.  Thankfully I've noticed a shift back towards functional and basic fitness that really is all most people need.

Also am I remembering correctly that I saw that obesity rates have dropped for the first time in the US in a long time?

Yep I thought I remembered seeing this. This is a good thing.  The junk/processed food industry is getting out of hand.  I'm way more conscious now about the ingredients in things I buy.

Quote from: Legend on Feb 07, 2025, 07:14 AMHadn't realized it's been so long since I last posted here. Over the summer I did really good. Solved my elbow by just having a really wide grip. Got to the lowest weight and most strength I've ever had as an adult.

Then went on a few vacations and that turned into an extended holiday with christmas. No exercise at all but also I didn't eat much as I thought so I didn't gain weight. Didn't lose too much strength, but certainly lost some. Strained a foot muscle helping my aunt and uncle move so I haven't even been doing dog walks.

Now I'm back into things. Going to train for a 10k, starting from scratch. I'm forcing myself to eat at least 1,000 calories a day which doesn't even feel like a diet. More like a training regiment.
I did really well in the month of july last year.  I dropped 10-15 pounds in a month(some was water weight). Then somehow my tendon slipped off my middle knuckle and my entire hand to my wrist swelled up and it took a good few months for it to be pretty much normal.  Its still got some weird aches here and there, but its fine now.

But yeah since then I haven't worked out till this past week or 2.  I never gained any weight back, but I just stalled out and now i'm really trying to make a change this year.

I think 100% of that is ozempic. I know so many people who have struggled with weightloss for years and are now dropping pound after pound thanks to it.

I'm sure many people assume I was on ozempic since I lost ~30 pounds.

Nice. And injuries suck! It just needed rest, not an operation?

I don't have a good excuse for my 4 month holiday. I just spent a week in Dublin and London eating great food and not working out, and then shortly after that spent a week in the Dominican Republic eating great food and not working out. Got me out of the routine.

@kitler53
I think it's something about the microcordination of muscles. Most of the mass is still there but they need to be trained up again to all work at peak performance.

Nope I was like 99% sure it would be fine as I knew nothing tore or anything as that would have been even worse. I haven't had any issues since(knock on wood). I definitely baby it more than ever, but I noticed i do more normal things with it now. I'm gonna do some hand/wrist stuff to help keep that stuff strengthened.

And yeah i'm sure ozempic has a big part of it.  Which isn't the best way, but if it works for people to at least get started that's great. I'm a big believer in the slow lifestyle changes than drastic stuff.

Hopefully a typo. That few of calories would make your body eat everything inside you cause it doesn't get enough

I eat roughly 1900 on a deficit. I'm gonna bump it a couple hundred or so when I really start strength training.  At least .75 grams of protein per body weight.  I aim for 170ish or so

I'm used to skipping meals and eating practically nothing on some days, and then feasting on others. So it's about normalizing things.

I'm doing 100+ grams of protein a day, now that I started actually tracking it instead of just having a shake and assuming I'm getting enough. Making some very weird high protein meals like spicy tuna macncheese yesterday because I was low on ingredients. I do not recommend  ::)

Yeah that sounds....not good. lol

With a couple scoops of protein power in morning. A few eggs, cheese, bacon for lunch, i'm usually around 80g to 90g

I did 4 miles of jogging yesterday. Wow that is just so crazy. When I first started, even going a tenth of a mile was impossible.

The 10k is around 6 miles so I'm getting pretty close. I only ever planned on just walking it with some jogs here and there, but I might actually be able to fully jog it with some runs here and there. Crazy.

Been slacking on my weight lifting though. Only barely enough to maintain  :P

Legend

Did a full 10k. 68 minutes.

Just unbelievable that I can do this. Exactly 1 month ago I was amazed when I jogged 0.4 miles. This was 6.

Legend

Did another 6 miles. 63:21

I'm still just amazed. Who knew you could just do things.

I need to start running but I hate it so much. I have a concept2 rower that I don't use nearly enough

I hated running my whole life. It's really weird not hating it.

Only exercise I hate at the moment is lateral raises. It just hurts lol. I wimp out before my muscles are 100% spent.
