Quote from: kitler53 on Jun 13, 2024, 11:55 AMratchet and clank likely wasn't viewed specificaly as a "family" title.   it has better family appeal than most sony titles these days but it was likely viewed more of a fan-service game.   i'm pretty sure a huge part of R&C buyers are guys like me.   old and long-time fans.

sackboy wasn't a very good titles for kids tbh.   visually yes.   but only 2 of the 7 worlds are easy enough for a kid to play.   it gets really hard really quick and the way they deal with dying is pretty punishing.  i know it's in line with legacy LBP but it's not kid friendly when the levels are so hard for a kid.

As someone replaying Sackboy I would agree; I am getting owned on some of these levels. Ratchet is probably easier than Sackboy on lower difficulty but I'd imagine the right analog stick would cause younger player issues. Probably 8 year olds would be the youngest who could enjoy Ratchet.

my son played the entire game without really ever using the right analog (despite my constant nagging to use it).    He never actually aimed either.   At the lower difficulty setting the aim assist is very generous and unless you jump off the side of a platform it's pretty hard to die.

..but yeah, my son was 9 when he played it.   it's a great game to facilitate that jump from 2D or locked camera to 3D gaming.   You can control the camera but it's not strictly necessary.   he played spiderman on the lowest difficulty and that was a surprisingly good game for this as well.    he just started hogwarts legacy yesterday and according to what i read it should be another good one.

the thing i learned just recently is all of this pushing for "accessibilty" is great an all for people with actual handicaps.    ...but honestly probably the biggest impact is for young or inexperience gamers.   i hope i can get my son to start turning off some of these assists as he gains experience but he's been able to play though some games i would have never thought were possible until i watched him do it.   it's been great because he actually likes spiderman and harry potter where games that seem targeted specifically to young gamers he refuses to play because he doesn't like the look of the game.

Yeah my wife played through all of Uncharted 4 and Uncharted Lost Legacy with auto assist on as she found the shooting too intense but loved the story and exploration. Accessibility and options are a great thing and more games should have them.  Heck I wouldn't be enjoying Rise of the Ronin if I couldn't play on easy. As long as your kid doesn't have arachnophobia hogwarts should be a really good game to a play. The actual combat is really fun but I just got sick of fighting dang spiders. Another game I'd recommend for younger players is Biomutant. Not sure how it is on easy but the whole setting and story is probably very easy for kids to understand and it has a narrator doing the story.

I'm not far enough in to fight any spiders but I did notice an "arachnophobia mode" in the accessibility settings.

says it replaced the spiders in the game with something less frightening.    ...i'm hoping that means spiders on roller skates.

Oh yeah I fought all of them before the mode came out. Didn't help I had to do it for me and my wife. I must have killed over 1000 spiders in that game and some are absolutely massive ugh

PSVR 2 is definitely dead.

Sony no longer cares about the PSVR 2, and neither should you

QuoteSources close to Android Central have revealed that Sony is making deep cuts to funding for VR games. While I'll paraphrase for anonymity, my source was told that there will be very few opportunities for VR game development at Sony going forward.

To back that up, another source informed me that only two PSVR 2 games are in development at Sony. Given the state of the games industry with constant layoffs and studio closings, I don't exactly feel confident that even these games will ever see the light of day if Sony continues on its current trajectory.

2 more games than I expected....

It really sucks but as a Vita fan, I recognized the signs pretty early on.

Since I'm so slow and if it happens it'll be in a post launch update, Hapax might be one of the last PSVR2 games  :P

QuoteThis morning, I'm sharing with all of you some of the most difficult changes we've ever had to make as a studio. Due to rising costs of development and industry shifts as well as enduring economic conditions, it has become clear that we need to make substantial changes to our cost structure and focus development efforts entirely on Destiny and Marathon.

That means beginning today, 220 of our roles will be eliminated, representing roughly 17% of our studio's workforce.

These actions will affect every level of the company, including most of our executive and senior leader roles.

sounds like sony is taking over the studio as rumored would happen if they didn't hit certain financial goals.  i wonder if this means the acquisition bonus payouts aren't being payed out as per the rumor there were contingencies.

also highly relevant:

QuoteSecond, we are working with PlayStation Studios leadership to spin out one of our incubation projects – an action game set in a brand-new science-fantasy universe – to form a new studio within PlayStation Studios to continue its promising development.

I like the idea of a game being spun off. Man was I hoping that Sony owning Bungie would allow them to make a big single player game.

Can they just drop Destiny 2 already.  Is there even a good playerbase right now. The Destiny ship has sailed long ago.  They need a game/world/new IP in the vain of halo or something.  GO BACK TO SINGLEPLAYER!

It has been well over a decade since they made a real singleplayer campaign. I think that side of Bungie is dead  :'(

Would love it though. Nothing beats Halo 2.

Yeah it's unfortunate.  I think the digging into live service as their viable way forward is a mistake that may ultimately close them for good.

i hope thats true. I'm hyped for that game.  Even though it only adds to the gazillion games i have over the next 4 months to play
