Mixed feelings.

Very sad to see the DMC go.

But this will likely mean better Disney releases.

Disney has a tendency to cheap out on their 4K releases. They frequently only use 66 GB discs, lack Dolby features. The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie is one where people argue that the 4K transfer is worse than the blu-ray ones. Disney has also stopped releasing movies in Australia. I think the writing has been on the wall for them.

Sony has some excellent releases. And maybe this will be a good thing.

I'm happy as long as the next Avatar still gets a 3d disc release ;D

How Disney's 'Moana 2' Jumped From Streaming to Theaters
QuoteThe switch was set in motion a few months ago, when Disney execs started getting a look at nearly finished episodes of the long-developing "Moana" series. (...) Soon, a plan was hatched: Could the episodes be combined into a single theatrical experience?

Yeah that doesn't fill me with any confidence. Was nearly finished as a tv show and only switched into a movie a few months ago.

I think there are probably like 20 movies I still want to get before DMC closes down, with my 60% discount.

Mostly the Star Wars 4Ks and then some random Disney animations.

It's finally possible.

Oh journalism.

"An array of HHD drives that could fit a petabit of data would be about 200 centimeters high. An equivalent array of Blu-Ray storage would be over 2 meters high."

This showed up on my news feed.

Megamind 2 looks so bad.

The writing and acting doesn't sound great. The visuals are so poor.

It looks very in line with the tv series that they're making.   :-\

Kung Fu Panda 4 is also coming soon. I am not sure how this one will shape up. I think it at least looks good.
Still has Jack Black.

Looks like it's a tv show. Doubt they have any long term plans with the megamind ip though so I guess it makes sense to act like it's a real sequel. Not coming to movie theaters right?

Kung Fu Panda 4 is just a regular sequel. It'll probably do great.

Yeah just a Peacock release I guess.

So the Snow White 4k comes with the 4k, blu-ray and DVD. Which I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I think it's more common to outright skip the blu-ray, let alone also include a DVD.

Legend

I have yet to buy a 4k movie so I haven't really thought about it, but it's kinda odd that they skip bluray most of the time in those bundles. Who still uses a dvd player yet is buying 4k movies?

Sorry I worded that very poorly/ambiguously.

I meant it seems way more common for a standalone 4K disc than 4K + blu-ray + DVD.
The vast majority of releases seem to have 4k+blu-ray. But a number of releases will omit/skip the blu-ray. But this is the first time I've seen a bundle that goes all the way from 4k to DVD.

Out of the 38 movies I have bought on 4K:
4K only: 7 (LOTR trilogy, Godfather trilogy, Titanic)
4K + blu-ray: 30
4k+blu-ray+DVD: 1

It makes perfect sense for 4k only to be more common than 4k+blu-ray+dvd, but it's weird because 4k+blu-ray just seems to be the norm.

Not that anyone cares.

But I got Inglourious Basterds. There was no digital code included, despite the box saying otherwise.

So I emailed Universal. They asked for pictures of the back and front. I sent them.

I noticed afterwards that there's a small line that says the included digital copy may not be valid after 2022.

I don't super care about the digital code, but eh, I feel like I should have it.

I wish those digital copies never expired. I've never bothered but one of these days they might be nice.
