Does anyone have any fan edits of films they've watched and enjoyed?

There are a few popular ones of the hobbit films that I'm interested in, but I haven't watched one yet.

The 4K Blu-ray Collectors Market Is on Fire

Quote4K Blu-ray sales rose almost 6% in the third quarter of 2023 compared to 2022, and at the end of 2022 were up 20% year-over-year, marking the only segment of the physical disc business to grow, according to numbers from Digital Entertainment Group

The third-quarter total of $363 million did not include the robust "Oppenheimer" numbers as discs didn't hit shelves until Nov. 21.

Doesn't sound like there is growth in physical media overall, but that the collectors space is going very strong.

Blu ray is the new vinyl, nice.

I don't think I've ever watched a fan edit of a movie. Heck I think I've only ever seen two versions of the same movie twice: Avatar + Avatar Extended cut and Justice League + Snyder Cut.

I currently have 5 out of 12 Nolan movies on 4k. Oppenheimer, Dark Knight Trilogy, and The Prestige.

What are your favorite movies? What are the hidden classics?

Lol I still need to see Oppenheimer, but why do some people think liking it is a sign of intelligence?

"I saw a mainstream hollywood movie, that means I am very smart" is such a silly take.

Guess it happens for a lot of Nolan's stuff.

I would say it feels like a different kind of movie. It's not actiony, or romantic or anything like that.

Definitely silly.

I would say so. Interstellar, Tenet probably especially.

This past weekend, watched The Shawshank Redemption.

This was interesting, I watched it without knowing anything about it.

Aside from hearing that it's pretty well loved.
The internet loves it, it edges out The Godfather as the #1 movie on imdb.

It was a very great movie for sure. No question about that.

I don't necessarily feel like it's #1 though. I like it more than The Godfather, but I feel like The Godfather is more impressive as a movie. I feel like there's more going on there.

Don't think I've seen it, but not sure.

I'll put it on my movie spreadsheet ;)

I think this is the second most expensive movie I have ever bought. Lawrence of Arabia on 4K is in short supply, so it's been fairly pricey. Paid ~$45 for it, doubt it will get cheaper.

Kind of feels fun to have rare movies and TV shows.

Sometimes it feels weird to see the things that never got released on physical media vs the things that do.

Warner Archive just announced they're releasing a bunch of old Scooby-Doo movies on blu-ray.

Sometimes I feel anxious about physical media's existence. And yet here we are, Warner Bros is putting out some 35 year old Scooby-Doo movies on blu-ray. A bunch of Cameron movies are being reworked for 4K.

Glad it's not like video game collector editions where the game is still digital.

I feel pretty good about movie discs sticking around, but I don't know if physical games will.

physical movies can be played on any number of devices.

ps5 games can only be played on ps5 and may require a patch to be played even solo/offline.   the long term preservation of a disc based game just isn't the same as it is with movies anymore.

Kind of noticing that none of the Disney 4K movies i have, feature Dolby Vision; and none of the Nolan movies feature Dolby Vision.

That feels kind of weird. The Batman has Dolby Vision. The Godfather films have Dolby Vision on the 4K. Back to the Future does.

Not that I particularly care. I was just looking at Titanic 4K on my plex server, and noticed it has a Dolby Vision tag on it, and was looking through whatever else had Dolby Vision.

Is dolby vision just a brand name for hdr or does it do something special?
