I'm surprised how well Days Gone did, both on PS4 and PC. It's not breaking records but $265 million in sales on PS4 looks fine.

.. especially when you consider all the drama.  like how the f is 7million considered a flop?

Based on the leaks Insomniac have around 485 people. Might be more now. They're surely Sony's biggest studio outside of Bungie right?

having digested these leaks for a day,.. i kind of feel like none of this is damaging to insomiac/sony.   okay,.. well the doxxing individual employees is pretty bad but the sales numbers were "stronger than expected" pretty much across the board.   insomiac's long term road map honestly didn't spoil things imo.   the announcement of spiderman 2 was like the biggest "well duh they are working on that" moment that didn't stop me from being excited about the details revealed in the trailer.   for wolverine,.. honestly seeing a long term committment to a 2nd/3rd title that expands to the entire x-men universe has me more excited for the franchise than ever.

it kind of sucks that blade and indiana jones are going to be exclusive to xbox but sony has disney's top 2 franchises under lock for the next 10+ years.   sony is in a good place here (disney exclusive properties) and this leak confirms it.  xbox has B-teir franchises comparatively.

I don't like marvel, so it's lame they've turned into a marvel studio. Hopefully the game side of marvel doesn't collapse like the movie side has.

I believe Naughty Dog has more.

Is there evidence?

Naughty Dog and maybe Guerilla are the only ones I could see having more. But I'm not sure if that's necessarily true.

Wikipedia says 400+, but that's not really reliable.

QuoteA more recent presentation in November points to potentially more drastic cuts. "Slimming down Ratchet and cutting new IP will not account for the reductions Sony is looking for," reads a PowerPoint note attributed to Insomniac head Ted Price. "To remove 50-75 people strategically, our best option is to cut deeply into Wolverine and Spider-Man 3, replacing lower performers with team members from Ratchet and new IP."

QuoteBusiness plans change, and Sony would not confirm if the discussed cuts are still on the table or already completed. But a notes file referencing a November 9 PlayStation off-site meeting reiterates the 50-75 number of cuts. The notes suggest the cuts are being asked of other PlayStation studios as well, including the line "there will be one studio closure." Sony did not respond when asked to clarify.

It's crazy how much a game like spider man 2 can cost despite being a relatively straightforward sequel.

I remember around the PS3 days when $50 million was a big budget.

<img src="https://i.imgur.com/EFUD0nX.png" alt="Orange-are-devs-from-other-teams-detail" class="bbc_img" loading="lazy">

Spider-Man 2 started preproduction basically before Spider-Man 1 was done, with generally fewer than 50 people.

Started production in 2019 with basically no one.

I assume after Spider-Man Miles Morales was done, they started scaling up to 300+ developers, who continued to work on the game until early 2023. Then started scaling down.

So around half of development had fewer than 75 people, and the other half of development had over 300+.
