Quote from: the-Pi-guy on Nov 06, 2023, 03:57 PMWB usually has ~25 movies in theaters a year, I doubt changing the ~2 DC movies would mean a noticeably different lineup.
but like,.. that's the point right.   so WB has 25 movies a year.   that means 2 DC movies is 8% of their yearly line-up right?

..and besides, it's probably a bit simplistic to even look at it as 25 movies a year as a single bucket.   i'm certain they break that down further into something like
- 25 movies total
   - 6 of them should be children's movies
   - 6 should be comedies
   - 6 should be action
   - 3 should be horror
   - 3 should be drama

... or whatever their formula is.   super hero movies are in that "action" bucket and if 3 of them are super hero movies that's like half of the allotment for the kind of movies i like the most.

and WB is better than disney right now.   i'm far more tired of marvel than i am of DC.   maybe i'm blind to something on the DC side but marvel feels worse when it's also a huge % of their disney+ line-up too.

I've seen every single marvel movie in theaters except captain marvel, eternals, and quantamania, but I've been tired ever since they started doing sequels and team ups. The first avengers was fun since it was the first time anything like that had happened but I remember walking out of the theater thinking it wasn't amazing.

Just for my own personal tastes and ignoring what it could mean for the industry, I'd love it if the MCU died. Just give me a standalone Marvel movie every few years and I'd be happy, or kill Marvel entirely if that's what it takes.

I also really hate how Marvel's popularity practically killed sincerity in movies. Almost every movie nowadays has to have jokey characters that downplay their situation. Would love if Hollywood moves away from that and has more Top Gun Mavericks/Avatars.

Agreed. That's why I particularly loved Joker and The Dark Knight I think. Nice antidotes to all the goofy marvel movies lol

glad to hear i wasn't the only one thinking that.   i haven't seen too many of the marvel movies but of the ones i have seen i think the avengers movies are the absolute worst.  too many characters on screen for nothing more than a cameo and 1-liner.   the plot/story takes a huge hit in these movies.   ...like almost as bad as the matrix sequels in terms just unsubstantiated action scenes that drag on for too long.

Wow The Marvels - Metacritic

Essentially the same as ant man. Might go down or up a bit.

Legend

~$6.5 million on Thursday, so ~$40 million for the weekend.

Doing very bad overseas too. Will break so many records and not the good kind.

Disney also delayed Captain America by a year to refilm most of it, according to peeps. Disney is more or less fully rebooting their mcu projects to hopefully right this ship.

I think 2024 will be another really bad year but hopefully things turn around in 2025.

Well at least the only MCU film in 2024 will be Deadpool.  So that and them hopefully finding their footing again with these movies will keep people coming.  I'm still all for the MCU they just have been doing too much.  If we go back to how it used to be before the multiverse saga I think they will be ok.

Deadpool is such a wild card. Could be a huge hit like no way home, or it could be another ant man 3.

Bit worried that it'll be rushed. Movie was in the middle of filming when the strikes paused production.

buffy the vampire slayer.

in each season the "bad guy" of the season esculated to be even bigger and even badder than the last until an amazing 5th season where buffy battled and slayed a god and died doing it.

season 6 was very small in comparison.  there wasn't actually any seasonal bad guy.  the season focused on buffy's mental trauma and her broken relationship to her friends.

Cinemascore is in, a B. Same as the Flash, Eternals, and Ant Man 3. Tied for lowest in MCU history.

Even the fans aren't happy with it. This will be the biggest flop in mcu history, but it might just end up the biggest flop in movie history. $200 million world wide looks like a very rough ballpark.

If wish does bad, this could be a really scary time for Disney. They're already dealing with a hostile takeover threat.
