Looks like the Marvels will need to pull an Elemental. 1 month away and numbers will change a lot but it's predicted to open around $50 million.

That's a third of what the first captain marvel did.

Tracking has not improved. Still predicted to open around $50 million and be a complete disaster unless it has great legs.

Wish is also tracking to around $50 million, but for Disney animation that's actually fine. Moana and Ralph 2 both opened up there and did good.

I think interests in comic book movies is finally dying out.

It won't die out completely, but I think it peaked, and Hollywood needs to look for the next gimmick to milk. Probably video game IPs

I hope if they really are dying out that studios will learn to offer more variety. No problem with milking game IPs as long as they keep being as varied as stuff like Mario, Five Nights at Freddy's, and Gran Turismo.

Personally my interest has waned in Marvel on account of:
- ending some of the characters i find more interesting.
- there's just so many movies, and you can surely watch some of them without the others, but it's just a lot. They put out 4 movies in 2021, and planning 3 each 2022-2024

And very personally due to life circumstances, it just feels very daunting to catch up. Especially with no one to drag me to watch them. It's a good bit of money and time to devote to them every year.

I'm cautiously optimistic for Gunn's DC.

Not fully sold on some things like the talking goat but I'm getting excited. I really hope they can pull off another Frozen level hit.

looks good enough to me.   haven't taken the kids to a movie since the Nintendo movie so it's a while and we usually watch something over Thanksgiving.

Things are getting really bad. The Marvels numbers are trending down.

Like worst flop in MCU history by a wide margin down.

Hopefully it gets great reviews because no one is showing up atm.

Let it die.

I barely been watching any good movies the past 10 years because of this shame. So I hope all marvel and DC movies bomb. One after the other.

That sounds like a personal issue.

They still make other things.

How is it personal? I'm sick of super hero movies that all have the same plot, same, character development, and same ending, same side characters, and same everything.

The amount of real interesting films is hugely limited as a result. And until these films die, or become a lot less prominent, then we will still get them over actually quality films.

We had enough super hero movies for a lifetime. So I hope they die out.

Are the Marvel movies preventing other movies from being made?

We've definitely had enough Marvel movies for a good long time. I still want some good DC ones.

i will mostly agree with you.   i don't need superhero movies to die off entirely but i want cross-universe super hero movies to die entirely.   i'm fudgy tired of 20-30 minutes of a movie being about a completely different franchise that becomes "required viewing" in order to enjoy the movie.    spider-man homecoming would have been been a better movie without the dr. strange cross over.

that said,.. i just rewatched spider man across the spiderverse and it's like a top whatever movie for me.   it's sooo good.

super hero movies should be structured like the bond franchise.   no more "origin" movies please,.. especially for super-famous characters like spiderman and batman.   just 1 movie that is super awesome that can be watched by itself.

and then yes,.. fewer super hero movies all around.   only soo many movies come to theaters a year and too many of them are superheros.   there are other topics/themes in the world that would make a good movie and i need some variety to not get bored.

like,... yes.

there are limited theaters and weekends in a year.   disney/WB aren't dumb,.. they aren't going to make 156 movies in a year only to watch 90% of them flop.   The total number of movies going to theaters each year remains pretty consistent in-line with the number of people that can/will actually go to a theatre to watch a movie.

WB usually has ~25 movies in theaters a year, I doubt changing the ~2 DC movies would mean a noticeably different lineup.
