Starfield OT First big update

I feel like if they're such believers in gamepass and that players aren't going to leave the PlayStation ecosystem, why not?

But just imagine the numbers they could be doing if it was on PS5.  They no doubt have lost out on so much revenue by not being on PS5.  

I'm starting to feel like if this isn't as big of a seller as they hoped they will release on ps5 within a year or 2.  

doubt it.   most sales happen in the first month.   coming 2 years late to playstation will do more damage to the "xbox exclusive" branding than it will do in sales.

possibly, but you know how MS is.  They'd just spin it or some shame and then fanboys will put Phil on an even higher pedestal.

You can buy the game/get gamepass, doesn't really matter?

£60 seems a lot but because I don't play games for hours on end anymore it might end up more expensive on Game Pass. Also, will it get a discount on steam during the holiday? And will I play it for a short while and never play it again.
I'm probably just end up wishlisting it and wait for a discount. I wouldn't normally overthink it like this but money is tight atm lol

Wow I just had something crazy happen. Can't talk about it without spoiling stuff but my custom actions as a player really elevated the moment.

My game is paused right now while I process things.





Also in unrelated news I used stealth for the first time. That was fun! I had a pistol that could take people out in one shot and a suit that made me invisible when not moving.


Also also, I still have no idea how fuel works in the game. Do I just have tons of helium 3 in my cargo hold? It shows the amount that will be used but the bar never goes down after a jump.

EDT: also I grabbed and moved my first item in the game. 70 hours into the game and I hadn't ever thought about it.

Also really interesting how universal it is for people to take a long time to acclimate to the game. Mass Effect never had this issue yet the games are essentially identical in structure. In fact Starfield didn't fully click for me till I realized it was like Mass Effect.

Don't know of any other game that suffered this problem.

So Horizon 5 was 4.5 in one day and 10 in one week. Hard to say how starfield's early release shifts things so I guess we'll need another number next week to know for sure.

I mean, yeah give it a week but that would be the bar of I would think starfield needs to jump.  afaik it's the only data point we have about player counts in a world where ~25 million people have access to the game for "free"

I swear it's like this game wanted to be as obtuse as possible.

So you know how I said this game is like Bethesda's take on Mass Effect? One specific similarity is that in cities there are a lot of independent maps connected by elevators and public transit. You select your destination and then a quick animation segues into a loading screen. Standard stuff but a bit lame.

Well at one point I was in a city and I "acquired" some contraband that would be detected at a security checkpoint. I'll skip the details but the elevators and public transit are actually real. The locations are all connected in physical space and you can find your own way around.


You spend dozens of hours with the game thinking it has certain limitations only to realize it doesn't. Escaping with my contraband felt like a scene out of a movie but why did the game train people to think it's worse than it is? This happens with a fair amount of things in Starfield.

Got Game Pass and downloading Starfield. Couldn't resist. Legend, you got me hyped so if it's not that great, I will go all out kitler on your dog!

a lot of games use "trickery" to make the player feel something that the software can't actually do.

a problem with being a smart and analytical person is seeing though the trickery.   for my wii was the worst in this regard.   so many nintendo games make heavy use of trickery (with wii frisbee golf being the worst of the worst imo) making you think you should use realistic movements when in fact that's the worst possible thing to do if you want to win.

Nice! It's a massive game so don't feel like you need to do everything.
