I finally watched mario. How did this make a profit, let alone a billion dollars? Jack Black was the only ok thing in it imo.

I enjoyed it.

It wasnt great, wasn't the way I hoped it would. But I just let the kid inside me enjoy it.

yeah, I'm not even sure I liked jack black either but he was the least bad performance.

for me it was the terrible story line and terrible dialog. so much of the movie was clearly motivated by "how do we get a .... reference in?". and the answer was always "no one cares if it it makes any sense just throw ... it in somewhere"

I think Nintendo had a big influence on the script...

That's nice. I think I got tripped up by how ugly most characters were.

The rise of gru movie was the same way but it worked as a dumb kids movie. This made so many weird changes to the lore that I doubt Nintendo proposed. I did not like Mario having a family one bit lol.

I just tried not to get hung up by any weird changes. that's the reason I enjoyed mainly. I also enjoyed DK and Mario's rivalry. Didnt like how they portrayed luigi though, they should have gave him a spine.

I still have only watched like the first 10 minutes.

I don't think Mario and company looked bad. But it felt jarring to me that most of the other human characters look like they're from an entirely different universe.

but then how would they fit in the reference to Luigi's mansion?!?! the reference was more important than a well written story or character!!!

yeah so I would also say this,.. you know how it is pretty universally accepted now that we have no need to watch yet another spiderman origin movie? we all know it and it's boring at this point.

well,.. mario's origin is the dumbest and most boring thing ever written and the movie would have been much better to not do it. ...or they should have rewritten it to not be the dumbest thing ever created.

if they had cut out that first 20 min + the learning to jump section they could have made a coherent movie that didn't suck.

I've gotten Dune, Lord of the Rings (x3), ordered Avatar 2, Super Mario Bros all in 4K in the past like two weeks. Whereas before I only had 1 4k movie ever.

Dune was cheapest in 4K for some reason.
I think Amazon glitched and it was erroneously showing a coupon for Super Mario Bros otherwise I wouldn't have gotten it. There was barely a price difference between 4K Avatar and 2K avatar.

I've been wanting Lord of the Rings in 4K for a while. Big upgrade over 480p... (also for some reason the blu-ray for LotR is a bit messed up. Image has a blue tint.)

But I shouldn't buy any more movies for a while...

I've still only watched part of it...

There's already things bugging me....
Spoiler for Hidden:
Bowser just randomly has it out for Mario?
Why is Peach testing Mario with the obstacle course?

Some stuff is just weird. Like why is it a thing that Mario doesn't like mushrooms?

Maybe I missed some explanations...
That's got to be pretty fun. Are you noticing tons of movie mistakes/details now? I remember going over to my aunt and uncle's house and seeing Enchanted on bluray for the first time. Never knew the apple had a skull on it.

That one I just got today, so I can't say.

I did skim through to see how it looked but that's about it.

Anyone interested?

I feel like the story will be fine, but the visuals don't look very good.

Like what on Earth is going on here:

Sorry didn't want to link the tweet itself, but it had the picture I wanted to share.
It's really funny how many people want to think it looks good, such as Reddit - Dive into anything

Pixar's RenderMan | Whats New

If anything, they were focused on making the movie cheaper.

the-pi-guy

Even if the movie were technically impressive, that doesn't automatically mean that it looks good.
Into the Spider-Verse is the opposite of that. It isn't pushing realistic visuals, but it still has fantastic visuals.
I don't know what the fix would have been. All I know is that those fire people do not look good at all. :-X

What would everyone say is their top 5 favorite movies? If you have an easy list of more than 5 off the top of your head, I won't stop you...

- Seven
- Interstellar (it would be my favourite if it weren't for the ending)
- Pirates of the Caribbean (the first 3)

I will add more to the list when I can remember
