What a mess.
yeah seriously.   the studio had Soo much gamer good will from the witcher franchise.  this seems bad enough to not just wreck the game but the entire studio.

Absolutely, the bugs were unexpected but no real biggie. People would be annoyed but move on and still be happy about the amazing game underneath.

But then we discover there isn't an amazing game underneath. Some people love it and forgive its flaws, but a lot of people are very disappointed.

Wrecking the studio is a bit much, but I seriously doubt gamers will trust them enough to give them 8 million pre-orders again.

GTA's open world interactivity with NPCs and general NPC AI is a generation ahead of Cyberpunk.

So maybe they should just stick to The Witcher.

This is lame lol. I thought Cyberpunk was blindly overhyped and I thought CD Projekt Red could bungle this badly, but I started really getting excited for the game over the past few weeks. I can't enjoy the schadenfreude even for selfish reasons.

If I wasn't worried about spoilers, I'd hold off and play it once the next gen patch is here.

GTAV was far from perfect but gosh darn it, at least it tried! The despawning car solution is pretty common but it should be the last resort.

Also my brother saw a gif/video of the game graphics slowly degrading until it crashes. Can anyone find it?

I think a lot of people were excited by the concept and excited by The Witcher 3 dev's new game.

I thought they'd delay the game more if it was bad, so I thought it'd be a ~92 game. I'm still shocked that they delayed it after it went gold and it still ended up with so many issues.

Witcher 3 started off with issues, but the issues here seem so much broader.  Honestly seems much buggier than most Bethesda games, and comes with unfinished features.

But I'm sure in a year or two, it'll be a game deserving of the hype it got.

Yeah for sure.

If they fixed all the bugs, performance and issues like that, improved AI for police, traffic, pedestrians etc., implement some QoL features and general refinements then I think this is an excellent 9/10 game. Probably deserving of a 90+ review average. It still has a fair bit wrong at its core that stops it from ever being a 10/10 masterpiece I think, but not many games do make it to that level.

As of right now it's maybe a 7 or 8 on PS5 for me, and that's because the main story and some of the side missions are really gelling and I'm enjoying the combat and I'm a sucker for driving around an open world city. Good, very good even, but I think everyone expected better.

The game is really immersive when it wants to be. I will say, one thing its done better than any game is immersion in conversations. The dialogue options aren't top of the line, and facial/ character animations are good but not anything sepcial either. But its the way characters do things, act like real people when you're talking to them. Cutscenes in games have looked good like this for a while, but I've never experienced regular in-game dialogue done so well.

Characters will move around, interact with the world and objects as they talk to you, transition from one place to another smoothly. Your actions also go smoothly with the conversations too. Its one of those things that is kinda small and doesn't sound like a big thing, but actually experiencing it is amazing. Seeing all of it in first person really does immerse you in the game like nothing I've experienced before.

It also helps that the story is really good and very engaging, and dialogue writing is top-notch. Being in story missions and proper side quests really is the high point of the game, its a shame the open world lets it down so much and there's so many other issues. It could really have been an all-timer if the entire game was at the same high quality.

Maybe going a bit more linear wouldve been better?

Maybe but then they'd have a problem with the side quest and RPG systems. There's no quick fix, if there was then they would have done it.

The quick fix would be a 12 month delay. ;)

I say this for the third time. But I really think this game will be worth the hype it got, in 12 months or so.

From what I heard, CPR has been good updating The Witcher 3. They even have a next gen update for that game coming.

This game will get tons of updates. The game will look very different, I am sure.

Yeah, there's fundamental issues which I think stop it from ever being R* level like some were hoping CDPR could elevate themselves to. However if it came out polished to perfection and with a lot of QoL improvements and some refinement, it would deserve a low 90s review average I think and rightfully win its fair share of GOTY awards. But that's a lot of work, the game is nowhere near the level I'm describing right now. Its not just bugs, its terrible AI and stuff like that that I've highlighted before. idk if even 12 months is enough for that.

That sounds great. Witcher 3 had incredible dev tools for dialogue and set the bar. I'm glad cyberpunk raises it.

If I stop seeing "interview" style dialogue in games, I'll be a happy man.

Yeah it really does feel like its a generation ahead of every other first person game with dialogue options like this. Its so, so much better than just standing there on the spot awkwardly interviewing an NPC with nothing going on. The locations that main story conversations take place in are usually really well made and fleshed out too, it does such a great job of putting you in the game and making it feel like its real. Its genuinely incredible.

Of course, then the cigarette a character was smoking starts floating in the air, or the phone the character was holding pops out of existance, or a character suddenly teleports from one position to another and it takes you right out of it. It doesn't happen too often in main missions though, I think they did their best to make sure the main quests are better polished than the rest of the game at least.
