I don't know if anyone got a chance to watch the digital foundry BC review.
It's glowing to the point where one of them seemingly prefers it over XSX.

There are some funny situations:
Unoptimized games between 2013 and 2016 should run better on PS5.  Because the PS5 often had a higher resolution target. 1080p vs 900p.

Depending on if you prefer resolution or frame rate, you may prefer the XSX or PS5.  XSX tended to aim higher with 4K, PS5 tended to aim for 1440p and/or with checkerboard. So for some instances PS5 will now run at a locked 60 fps, whereas the XSX struggles to hit 60.

Funny situations.

Yea it's interesting since up until yesterday it wasn't clear how "Boost mode" would work and many, including MS (remember their tweets proudly declaring how BC games would use the entire power of the Series X and no boost clocks? Obvious dig at Sony), thought games would not gain as much on PS5 than their counterparts on Xbox would.

Play time counter.

This is one of those funny little things that really really shouldn't matter.  Yet I'm really excited for. I would legitimately take this over quick resume.

Same, this is a feature I would use and enjoy way more than quick resume.

On the whole reviewers seem very happy with the PS5.

There are some weird mixes of perhaps unexpectedly good and unexpectedly bad aspects.
Pro:
- play time
- BC is excellent. The bootable titles seem to work well with minor issues so the Ubisoft listing was over the top.

Cons:
- load times are strangely high on PS5.
- may or may not be able to cold store games on external HDD.  IGN said yes, two others said no.
- no folders
- PT was running fine, until a system update deemed it an unplayable title.

All of this can probably be fixed.  Whether it is or not, hard to say.

i'm sorry but PT shouldn't be listed as a con for ps5...

Knack in 60fps!

Sekiro 1800p checkerboard rocksolid 60fps wow. XSX is 1800p native 60fps with drops. Difference between native and checkerboard is minimal according to df

This is basically the easiest way to get around the whole 'no quick resume' concerns. Every game should simply have a card that quickly lets you start the game mode you wanna play from the dashboard, circumventing splash screens and start menus all together.

I remember reading that Fortnite is gonna use it like that already.

Edit: DMCVSE seems to use activities like that as well. Has one to directly continue the campaign.

Yeah this is great, hopefully the switcher or something similar has cards like this for every game you have installed so you can quickly switch to it. Looks like this will be easy to do from the home screen (check 4:36):

I'm going to phrase this as:

ps5 can quick resume from any location in the game while xbox can only quick resume from one.

Yeah i feel like the difference between a native res or checkerboard res is soooo minimal, that I honestly think its worth having checkerboard to get more rock solid fps.

Quote from: Xevross on Nov 06, 2020, 01:27 PMPS5 loading slower than series X in most regards is not something I was expecting, that's a bummer.
So turns out this was all wrong, people just recorded it incorrectly or were inconsistent.

PS5 does seem to load BC games faster than Series X for the vast majority of games.

Resuming from rest on the PS5 is still a bit slower but if you turn off the log in screen its still quite fast and can be improved. PS5 also has very fast loading into a game by using cards to jump straight into a part of the game you want, which almost rivals quick resume.
