That's nothing really. If it were MS and that 3m was in 2 countries then OK

Quote from: Dr. Pezus on Feb 01, 2017, 10:21 PMMax, if sports games aren't AAA, LBP3 isn't either. The team and budget are likely way smaller there than with sports titles.
Yeah... Considering that LBP has predevelopment stage and was on a development cycle probably 4 times longer than sports titles.... I'm gonna say no until you show me sports titles are tens of millions of dollars. Which, considering mlb and nhl get less than a million total and NFL less than a million full price ... I'm going to have to doubt that. Seriously, these games are profitable with like 20m revenue.

Good. Because again. These titles are profitable with minimal revenue. The games get thrown into the clearance section at the end of the season too.

Edit: Eh, actually no. Still not worth it. I'm done here.

But don't think for a second that the point you're trying to argue here isn't one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
Servers shutting down for another sports video game a year after its launch - Polygon

Sports titles are all about reducing costs and time as much as possible because the majority of them have 1 market sales potential. Now,  unless you show me a source that these quick turn around times, reused assets, dead servers, low sale games, short shelf life have a ridiculous bloated budget....

I could walk into my local target/Walmart and find 2016 sports games in the bargain bin.

Target : Expect More. Pay Less.

"unavailable. Not in Stock in stores near you" (and the next one isn't even out for another two months)

Doesn't really matter what we think. Sports titles are classified as AAA games

A lot of people. AAA is completely subjective, this is a less than pointless argument.

Everyone has a different idea in their mind of what 'AAA' actually means, if Max thinks a game isn't triple AAA then that's fine, it doesn't matter. If Der Nebel thinks that game should be called AAA, then that's fine. You just think of AAA differently. Which is perfectly reasonable.

This guy for instance. (at around 7:40)

And regarding budget, NFL 2K3 over 14 years ago had a budget of $15 million.

How Much Does It Cost To Make A Big Video Game?

Does it really matter what AAA means?

Words are fluid and this isn't a moment where the distinction matters. I've never considered sports games AAA either so statistically there's probably a significant amount of people who think the same way.

It matters when you use a certain definition for AAA that these sports titles clearly fall under and then deny that they are AAA.

And yet,  the NFL 2k series is no more.... And only lasted 5 years.  Hm...  I wonder why

Because EA bought the rights to be the only one to make NFL games.
It would literally be against the law for NFL 2k6 to have been made.
