Like taxes are relatively high, but as you mention there's a whole slew of other problems that the governments have to deal with.  Doesn't change the fact that we have the lowest taxes in the country bar Alberta, which is in a huge mess, again because of the "right".  Funny thing is, my sister complaining and wants to live in the U.S. but is completely oblivious to the government programs she uses.  My sister used to take my niece to music programs that the province is running.  She paid nothing.  Guess how much that program would be in the U.S.?  Not free.
What kind of music programs?

Quote from: darkknightkryta on Jan 22, 2017, 02:20 AMLike it's mind boggling.  I said the other day that our PM Mulroney should have been thrown in jail for signing NAFTA.  I mentioned that there was no debt in Canada until he came into power (He racked up 200 billion dollars of debt in his term... somehow).  My sister said "There was debt", like really?  Do you just not believe facts?  I tell people we have the lowest income rates in the country, next to like one place in the country that's 1% lower.  They don't believe me.  We have the highest income tax rate in Canada according them.  Like, we pay 5% if you make 40k or less, every other provinces starts at 8 and go as high as 12.  I know, I did a whole math unit on this and got the numbers straight from the Canada Revenue website.  I remember arguing with a coworker around last election in the province.  Apparently Quebec has lower taxes and little debt.  When I actually went to go look into it, Quebec has AS much debt as Ontario, yet managed that with HIGHER TAXES!
A lot of these things are way more complicated than anybody gives mind.
A lot of Republicans argue that lower taxes = businesses will have more money to pay their employees.  That's not what happens though.  There's a reason why so many of these companies are manufacturing in countries like China.  Because there, they can pay as little as they like.  There are Walmart factories that don't even have fire extinguishers.
You can hire children to your work for pennies.  That doesn't sound like something to aspire to, but a lot of people don't realize that.

If you look at the big picture of where taxes are going:
You pay the government, some goes to employees, those employees have to buy food, buy goods, buy cars, etc.  And some of that money ends up back in our pockets.
And that's basically one scenario out of billions possible.  Waay too complicated to really get a good or bad answer.

My sister used to bring my niece to a singing program for babies less than 1 years of age.  The lady sings to them.  The kids "try". It's a good program so babies can interact with each other.

But yeah, it's crazy the stuff governments have to go through.  It's just I find when the right get in charge they're unqualified, cut taxes, and then close their eyes and plug their ears until someone better has to come and fix their mess.  It's just the right have been making bigger messes that are getting harder to clean.  The businesses are really thorough with their fuckeries and have been making problems more permanent.

My mom used do those, was called gymboree or something like that and  had different levels for age groups and was focused on rythm, beats, movements etc.    she happened to do it in a rather higher end portion of west vancouver.   one day in class one of the dads tagged along to watch and kinda sat quietly with a hat an sunglasses off.   my mom had no idea who he was, but another parent mentioned it after he left, Todd Bertuzzi.  one of the more famous canucks at the time, and one who gained alot of notoriety for breaking a guys neck lol

Well we have council tax as well and sales tax is 20%. I guess that means taxes are similar in our countries. Yet, I barely hear anyone complain about taxes being too high, in fact there's a fair amount of support for raising taxes, which is what Labour want to do.

Yeah people just complain without actually considering the reality of the situation. I recognise that our government is running a massive budget deficit, so I accept that some sacrifices will have to be made.

That's the thing, businesses are brainwashing people into thinking taxes are bad when they're not.  All the countries that have better quality of life all have one thing in common, high taxes.

There were also protesters criticizing the DNC for selling out a few months ago, apparently.
