I was casually looking through the index and then, I saw this thread. I know that Japanese games don't do well on Xbox platforms, but this really bad. Microsoft canceled Scalebound, Project Knoxville, Phantom Dust Remake, and Fable Legends and shut down Project Spark. What the hell...?

Quote from: Ludicrous Speed on Jan 09, 2017, 08:45 PMAnd nothing of value was lost. Game looked like shame even for a Japanese game every time they showed it.
Funnily enough, I logged in right after I got the good ending on Odin Sphere Leifthrasir and it's one of the best remakes I've encountered.

I agree with this. I mean I can't know for sure of course, but it's also my guess. As mad in love as I am with Platinum Games, especially Bayonetta, I was never really convinced by the gameplay showings of Scalebound. I was super hyped by the announcement and CG trailer, but gameplay-wise it never seemed to get to that "platinum feel". The last E3 demo was the worst, imo a borefest of slow, impactless ranged shooting on a big foe with no hit reaction whatsoever, almost like the polar opposite of what you'd expect a Platinum game to be. It's true that it can be argued it was too many new things at once (open-world, rpg, co-op, etc), but to be fair even the combat (what those guys know best) never really felt there to me. I really didn't expect this to be canceled though, quite a shock, but I'm not especially mad that I don't get to play it, aside from the pure curiosity of course.

There is a writer on twitter saying he was close to one of the platinum devs and says they were played pretty much the same way the Phantom Dust devs were. They were given insane milestones and withheld funding for the past year. So that seems to be MS's go to when they want to get out of a contracted game.

If this is true, then Microsoft has not learned its lesson.

QuoteThis game looked incredible and if it is in trouble, Sony can definitely save the project with their world renown patience. It's one game that will add to PS4's library, 1 more RPG will not hurt it. Sony makes tons of amazing stuff happen this gen. We're talking about Hideki dang Kamiya! He's a top 10 best game auteur.

I would welcome Scalebound coming to PS4 in 2018.

WTF Microsoft? The one game I was waiting for on the Xbox platform, and you kill it!

How and why?

I really didn't think it looked that good....

It didn't...

It didn't. The awful head phones and try to be funny remarks were terrible... However, seeing Xbox fans throw it in the trash after this news is amusing

In fact, it progressively looked worse the more Microsoft showed the game.

I liked it a lot in 2014 but that sums up how I feel. Probably had something to do with the dev troubles.

I was expecting a Crackdown cancellation. I was certainly not expecting this. I'm sure within the next few days or weeks we'll get some solid inside information on what happened to the project. Sounds like rumors are coming out that it was much the same situation as with the developer behind Phantom Dust. Crackdown has always been on my radar for a game that could be in trouble. The actual developer of the game wasn't solidified until well after the game was announced. It was a tiny development team that had no projects under its belt. Sumo Digital had to be brought in to assist with development. Then rumors started swirling that the heads of the development team quit the project. Which led to rumors that it was cancelled, which Spencer shot down, and now Microsoft insists the game is coming. Though there is still nearly an entire year before the game is expected to release. We've seen this song and dance before. Especially from Microsoft.

How and why?
No. Just. No. The game looked like shame. The only people who claimed it looked great were hardcore Xbox fanboys. Not surprising. They're the same group of people who listed Recore as "one of the great exclusives coming to Xbox" before we even knew anything about it besides the developer and that it had robots. If Sony wants to do something with Platinum Games, what they should do is contract them to make a new title. That would help Platinum's financial position after this cancellation and improve relations between the companies. Though to be honest, Platinum hasn't impressed me lately and even Nier has me cautiously optimistic. More caution than optimism.
