I've seen that news gain quite a decent bit of traction on reddit when it came out and I'm not really sure why. I mean it's not a bad number by any means but it's not something absolutely incredible or unheard of either. Dark Souls 3 for instance sold through 80% of its shipment day one earlier this year.

The 70% is meaningless without context.

A game that shipped 1,000,000 copies and sold 1% of its shipment is much better than a game that shipped 10 copies and sold 100% of it.

Overall it's completely meaningless, but it sounds fairly impressive.

Yeah fortunately with Japan we won't have to wait and guess for long. 3 more days and we'll know what the game did in its first week. I'm also interested in seeing final first week sales at COMG later today.

Oh it's out already.

I expect around 150k first week. Maybe 200k with ps3 version

That is in line with previous titles!

You're killing me man! A couple months ago I would have said 500k first week, COMG performance strongly indicates that that was naive of me (I wasn't the only one that thought in those dimensions though), however I would still be very disappointed if the game did less than 300k first week.

3 more days for mediacreate.  I'm really hyped for this.  And after this week until the end of the year PS4 has lots of titles releasing.  its going to be fun following that chart.  2017 will be awesome too.

I can't remember if it was us discussing this, or if it was with someone else, but this is what I was talking about with Japan and games.  Games don't sell well in Japan.  Only few games sell amazing, with the rest selling as you see.

It was us, but the whole context of that conversation was weird and made me wonder why we even got there. We were talking about what games Sony could show to make their TGS conference better, but you rejected the games I suggested because they wouldn't be big in Japan, even though by todays console standards over there they would still have to be considered big PS4 games.

RAPTUROUS RETURN

19/Sep/2016
Debuting at No1 just like the 3 games in the series covered within this remaster (Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite) is 2K/Take 2's 'Bioshock: The Collection' for PS4 & Xbox One.

After a particularly slow week 36, this week 37 sees 7 new releases within the All Formats Top 40, all of which debut within the Top 20. 4 of these new releases are within the Top 10 and 3 occupy the tops spots. Konami debut at No2 with the 5-format 'Pro Evolution Soccer 2017' – this is up one place over last year's debut with physical retail sales down slightly (-3%). Gen 8 (PS4/Xbox One) console versions of PES17 account for 93% of console software sales, up from 86% last year. Debuting at No3 (just like last year's NBA 2K16) is 2K/Take 2's 4-format 'NBA 2K17'.
Microsoft debut at No5 with Xbox One format-exclusive new IP 'ReCore'. Also debuting this week is Square/Nintendo's 3DS 'Dragon Quest VII: The Forgotten Past' at No12, EA's 'NHL 17' at No15 and Telltale Games' 'Batman: The Telltale Series' at No19.
