Isn't Xbox S launch in September NPD? Might not even win that if PS4 has a good FFXV bundle
Unless FFXV release is October NPD

About Japan....

PS4 will track behind PS3 in the next few weeks because it was PS3 holidays...
PS4 will back to track ahead PS3 after September when start the PS4 holidays and ends the PS3 ones...

I guess a small gap in PS4 favor will exists in January until mid of 2007 when starts the PS3 holidays again and PS3 can overtake it again... it is hard to predict because the big RPGs titles drops this holiday for PS4 and could change the things in PS4 favor.

This is going to be huge.

I could see it selling 500k day one and having limited stock till 2018.

This will be Wii 2.0 in every way. Just hopefully it manages to have stronger lasting appeal.

I think Sony was smart to delay it till October. It will launch with so much more software than the other headsets.

i really doubt that.  i can see up to 3 million units being sold fairly quickly to the rabbid early adopters but after that i think this sputters out.  i'd be really, really surprised if psvr hits the 20 million (lifetime) that kinect did.

PSVR isn't going to generate as much buzz as the Wii, but it will have longer legs. It all comes down to the software and if Sony can make sure that the PSVR consistently receives good software post-launch, then it'll do well.

Have you tried modern VR?

My time with PSVR really felt like an early Wii experience. It doesn't lend to good games, but man is it a great gimmick. Adults and non traditional gamers will probably be a large percentage of the buyers.

I doubt it'll be as huge as Wii, but it's the same formula. Sony just needs to sell fast before VR becomes average.

i have not.  i still don't believe it will be more causal friendly. you're a dang tech enthusiast,.. you get excited about rockets landing back on earth.  your opinion is not mainstream.

On the contrary.
I showed both of my parents the Rift.  Neither have played any video games in years.
I showed my dad first.  And then I asked my mom to come see it.  And my dad urged her to go see it.
Both of them were incredibly impressed.

One of my friends who is hardly a gamer, was gushing about it.  As someone whose only 7th gen console was a Wii, he was ridiculously impressed. (And owns none of the current systems.)
While Legend has some very uncommon interests and so do I, there is a lot of interest in it by casuals.

It's not my opinion on VR, but my opinion on the casual's opinion on VR. Personally I tried GearVR and kinda lost interest but PSVR has me excited again.

Yup. My sister, mother, and father had those "oh wow" reactions when trying GearVR too.

BadVR is really (really really really ..... really really) lame.  I tried like an arcade VR type thing a few years ago.  Lame as all heck.  Quite nearly killed all interest I had in any VR.

Saw a GearVR at Best Buy, and even that was 1000x better.  And was pretty much the only reason I was interested enough to order a Rift.

The actual headsets (PSVR, Vive, Rift) are all even better.
