I'm surprised Square remembered they were making an Xbox One version.

Yeah, must be a digital billboard that changes.

Would be hilarious if Square did forget.

Nor would it matter if they did. The game will sell for shame on XB1.

Free XBOX multiplayer would be smart and might happen if they're merging XBOX with windows.

The only other option is making multiplayer require gold on W10.

I doubt they'd step away from all the money that Xbox Live Gold is still making for them. They already have Killer Instinct out on PC, so there already is a precedent of them having a cross platform game where you can play online for free on Win10 while you have to pay on Xbox.

Free MP on console just seems like a fanboys wet dream at this point and nothing more, I mean Gold has to still bring in several $100M every year, how would they justify to their shareholders etc. to drop the biggest incentive the service has?

It becomes especially pricey when you start thinking of the free games. A lot of the incentives would have to go away. I think it's pretty clear that Microsoft isn't interested in losing money anymore on Xbox.

Losing Live revenue would just lead to MS going third party and making PC+PS4 games in a couple of years, as that revenue is the only thing keeping that from being the superior business avenue. Lose Live, lose Xbox.

They tried that before.  It failed.

So it seems strongly rumoured now that the Scorpio will be talked about by MS at E3, really wonder how that's going to go. I have the feeling they think the world's unanimously going to be onboard with that, but going by all rumour talk I think they are going to be very much blindsided by wave of negativity for it.

I don't think it a good idea for Microsoft to talk about the Scorpio when rumor is that it won't release until late 2017. That's almost a year and a half away. That gives Sony an abundance of time to react to whatever Microsoft details and Xbox One sales already appear to be stagnating in the one market it's doing well enough in. It's one thing to talk about the next iteration of your console when it's 6 to 9 months away. At 15 months away you're really risking your sales. Though to be honest, I don't see it mattering either way. By the time late 2017 hits, I'm pretty sure Xbox One will be very low on steam, if not already out.
