Literally every 4K tv already does that. ::)
I love how they complain about " considerable sacrifices" to ps4 game... really gaf it's not running in 4k. That's 4x less pixels, not to mention textures.

If it's twice as powerful, they could do a lot more with everything.

The same sacrifices already being made to get these games to run as they do. Also, expecting this to be a Holiday 2017 release.

But I want to play the game as the very best.  :(

No way would it be late 2017 if it's being announced this E3. Would really slow sales.

Holiday 2016 or March 2017.

We don't know when it's being announced. A holiday 2016 release could very well kill PSVR. Also, considering this may fall into the enthusiast category for early adoption, I don't think sales will slow by some alarming rate. Especially if it comes with a $500 price tag.

I was going to say two high dollar releases at the same time could kill one or both.

Wall Street Journal said announcement before PSVR's release.

Nothing is killing VR!  ;D

Regardless of its announcement, if it comes off as being enthusiast at launch, sales won't really be affected. Millions will still buy the $300 PS4 instead.

Yeah that's why I'm hoping for $500. $400 is way too close.

Also release is Q1 2017.

Yes I do care about my job and I generally do the firing =) . To clear up a few things though he did not make it sound like all games would be native 4k just that they would be scaled to 4k and we do have a tentative placeholder date for late Q1 next year.
Tried to keep my personal thoughts out of this thread but I really believe this move is all about the PSVR trying to look a bit better when compared to its direct competition.

Hmmm Late Q1 could work. Most people who wanted PSVR ASAP either already have it by then or are waiting for more shipments. That's still a bit close for comfort. If it's not a $500 enthusiast platform, that may cause friction.

Maybe the hypothetical PS4K's own upscaling solution does a better job and reduces input lag.
