It would be absolutely shame if Sony has a PS4.5 and scales games down for PS4. That would be more like PS4 and ps3.5 since the PS4 never really broke free from cross gen games. I'm confident this isn't the case though. 4k gaming isn't a cost efficient reality yet and having an uber priced PS4 shouldn't sound appealing to Sony.

Quote from: Legend on Mar 23, 2016, 04:13 AMThe problem with move is that it's jumps a fair bit at least in my experience. Also it has horrible directional tracking and needs to be recalibrated every few minutes.
Wouldn't the better camera fix this?

Quote from: DerNebel on Mar 27, 2016, 08:27 PMAh, ok. Definitely sounds like the least "offensive" option and with me not having a 4k TV also like the on that I'd currently be the least interested in getting.
It makes the most sense, in my opinion. This PS4K will not fragment the userbase and will only appeal to those who have 4K displays. Any extra horsepower that the PS4K will have will probably be only dedicated to 4K upscaling. We also have this patent that Sony submitted earlier this year as a possible clue:

Lol, saw this gif in that thread and thought it pretty perfectly describes the current discussion on this topic.

Hyperbole and general panic everywhere, tons of people are expecting only the worst case scenarios and aren't even attempting to see the positives in this or how harmless it might (probably will) turn out to be. Another day on the internet.

NeoGAF - View Single Post -  PS4K information (~2x GPU power plus clock increase, new CPU, price, etc)

QuoteRelated info from a meeting we had yesterday was waiting for it to be approved before posting.
Price is currently $399.99 they were discussing a better CPU which would raise the price to $499.99 we were guaranteed the price will be no higher than $499.99 (He mentioned the CPU upgrade quite a bit almost as if they haven't really decided on a final spec could be a pricing issue.) also there is currently no plan for any type of trade in program for current PS4 users but that could change.
They stated that the GPU is twice as powerful as standard PS4 and much faster. They did not say exactly how fast but that is was running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.
It will have a 4k blu ray player and will upscale games that are not natively 4k.
Also there was talk of some sort of VR lounge for the media player app which is supposed to be getting a substantial upgrade.
It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.
It was also made very clear that current games would not be getting any type of performance upgrades by being played on the system and any benefits to older games would come via patch per game and per developer. When asked if this was going to happen the response was "Its a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."
We were also given a list of games that will be available at launch that will directly take advantage of the PS4K where the differences are and I will quote him "Significant."
 For the PSVR
 Eve Valkyrie
 Robinson
 GT Sport
 For the PS4K
Deep Down (Thought this was dead)
GOW4 (This was the exact abbreviation on the sheet I can only assume its god of war 4)
There were more games on the list but these are the ones that stood out to me.
That's all I can remember off the top of my head I'll see if I can get any more information.

Can a GPU twice as powerful as the PS4's render native 4K sufficiently? ???

Maybe at medium setting 30fps. I think it would put it close to a 970 and then you have console optimization.

Good price.

Deep Down a launch game... OMG.

Assuming it's native 4K. Sounds like they are already preparing to have to upscale if not being rendered native 4K. That may help performance. Though like you said, a GPU twice as powerful with console optimization could go a long way.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm personally looking forward to it as I was going to buy the slim model anyway... however I'm worried this could backfire horribly for Sony.

If it works well it could make Playstation's market dominance untouchable, it all depends on how they go with it and market it. If this makes PS4 games worse because devs focus on the 4K version this won't end well.

2X raw GPU power and an upclock could get this thing closer to x3 performance.

I'm kinda OK with this. It's significant enough to feel like a true upgrade. If they go with the $500 price, then it'd attract a different market than the $300 standard PS4.

Sounds much more like a 4.5 than a 4k though. IF, and this is a HUGE if, PS4 stays standard and most games are primarily built for PS4 for the next couple years, then I think this could work out.

the-pi-guy

I don't really like the sound of this.  :P

I love on GAF though how so many people are excited it upscales games to 4k.

Literally every 4K tv already does that. ::)
