Well it wasn't on for that long, I usually keep it on for longer than that, I'd only gone out for a quick walk.

Laptops are more hardware linked than PCs.  If something fails, it'd be more of an issue.  Though it sounds like something got corrupted in the hard drive.

Even knowing I'll only pay avout 150 to upgrade to a water cooled 980ti it's still hard to swallow that price.

System Build - PCPartPicker

This is the pc I plan to build for the guy at work.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this, or away to do better or cheaper?

crud, I was playing with parts and it changed the list I posted.
When you're messing with pcpartpicker:
There is a link just above "Compatibility Check: No issues/incompatibilities found."  Right to the left of the facebook/twitter/reddit/etc business.  Copy and paste that link.  
Don't copy and paste the link at the top, that just takes you to a blank pcpart list.

Bahahahahah that's the computer I was thinking of building.  Except it would cost me $1700 to build :(
