Quote from: Raven on Feb 16, 2016, 06:50 PMI'm betting Gravity Rush 2 doesn't release this year. Considering what the second half of the year could look like, I'd say better to hold off and use it to beef up the first calendar quarter of 2017.

This, of course, depends on the state of TLG and Horizon. I don't think Sony will release all three at the same relative time. One of them will be pushed out for one reason or another.
Yeah, I guess. GR 2 will have a hard time no matter when it releases, it needs as little competition as it can get, it will only get slaughtered during the holiday season.

Quote from: NotBananaKing on Feb 16, 2016, 06:53 PMGravity rush should be released in July- August. its the perfecting time for it to release. little to no competition.
This Summer might be a little more packed than usual. Especially with Persona 5 and Final Fantasy 15 if the speculation holds up. Plus, I don't know how far along in development GR2 is right now. They may need every bit of the next 9 months to complete it. Considering how bloated this year is for PS4 releases, there may not be an ideal time at all this year for Sony to release it.

Geez, this is going to be a trip isn't it? At least 2 years full of speculation, teases and hype before we probably even get to see the game for the first time. I think his next project won't be seen until December 2017 at the earliest.

QuoteLast September we put a call out to PS4 owners to test out our next system software update and since we're getting close to the release of our next update for PS4, we wanted to do it again! Starting today you can sign up to be a beta tester and get a sneak peek at some of the features making their way to your PS4. The beta program will kick off in early March, and if you're part of the program, you'll receive an email with instructions on downloading the system software. You can roll back to the previous system software at any time, so don't worry about downloading the beta. In order to sign up, you'll need a PS4 with an Internet connection and a master account. We'll share more details on the new features you'll be able to test when the beta begins.

Yes, how about those things.

Maybe even backwards compatibility, cancer curing features, and maybe even more.

Talking of Gravity Rush. Just picked up Gravity Rush: Remastered. Such a refreshing and unique I.P from Japan Studio and its freshness and uniqueness reminds me of the other vita ported title to PS4 in Tearaway: Unfolded. Both feel so different from the usual games churned out nowadays, almost like a palette cleanser if you wish. The games main gimmick if you like is the gravity powers which are handled remarkably well in all aspects of the game. It's exhilarating to upgrade your powers and surge up and down the sky in such a different manner from flying; the traversal is immensely fun. Collecting gems reminds me of the fun I had collecting orbs in Crackdown.I have explored 3 districts now.The first district is an area which seems distinctly normal (but it is charming )with markets and meeting places but is deceptive and the real joy is the verticality of the world. Underneath this city are passageways and hidden locations, it feels like each district has 3 layers. There is lots of depth in the world design despite it being clearly designed on the vita. Kat is a great protag, it's very hard not to warm someone so full of heart but also clumsy. And lastly the musical score is excellent. Now I cannot wait even more for Gravity Rush 2 which looks to have improved on my issues which are the combat and depth of interaction with the world. Great to see Japan Studio back with a bang this gen too.

For me one of GR2 or TLG has be to be out this year because I am assuming Japan Studio have another game in the works to be announced at TGS again as they are Sony's biggest studio with over 400 people. There is no way they are just working on TLG and GR2. Sony do not want 3 announced Japan Studio games with not one released yet. It is the same reason why I thought people were mad who thought TLOU2 was going to be announced last year despite UC4 not being out. ND are another big studio and probably have another game in the works but they have to get UC4 out first.Guerilla could be in the same boat with Horizon too with probably another unannounced project but it makes no sense to announce it before Horizon is out.

So I just finished and plat'd Gravity Rush Remastered, neat little game, has many good ideas and a lot of charm, but also leaves a lot that can be improved in a sequel. And that ending is such a cockblock, I don't know how I would have felt if I played this on the Vita in 2012 and had to worry if there was going to be a sequel at all.

I don't remember anything bad about the ending. What do you mean?

Technically, Japan Studio already has three games awaiting release. The two you mentioned and The Tomorrow Children. Hell, with Gravity Rush Remastered it was four before that one released. I don't think Sony or Japan Studio are terribly concerned about timing announcements in the way you're thinking. If another game from Japan Studio is fairly close to release they'll announce it. They'll hold off if it's still a ways out and they want to save surprises from their upcoming portfolio. Not for the sake of avoiding "too many announcements" from a single studio.

TLOU2 wasn't announced because Naughty Dog isn't really working on their next game right now. They already made it clear that they've mostly moved away from two big simultaneous teams. I'm sure they have some work done on it already by a smaller team but mostly early work. It's nowhere near ready for announcement. That's why it wasn't announced. We do know at one point they had four projects going, including The Last of Us Remastered before it released, but we have no idea where those projects are at right now. Seeing how long it has taken for Uncharted 4, I'm inclined to believe that when they said they put "all hands on deck" for it, they meant it.

Guerrilla probably has ideas for where they're going next but I doubt any significant work has been done. Horizon is a huge project that will probably need every bit of the staff at their Amsterdam studio to pull off in any 'good' span of time. Also, and not to be terribly picky, but Guerrilla technically has two games in development because of RIGS. Guerrilla Cambridge may be a physically separate studio but it's under the control of Guerrilla Games and Herman Hulst. They even count Cambridge employees when asked how many people Guerrilla Games has.

If Sony was concerned about "making sense by not announcing multiple games from one studio" then they wouldn't have announced Gravity Rush 2 and The Last Guardian in the same year. So that alone already shows that Sony isn't concerned about how many games they've announced from one of their developers. It shows that they're more concerned about what makes their upcoming lineup look robust while being more careful to not announce something that's too far out.
