My reaction to the news.

3ds will do great and so will the Ps4. They are very different games only sharing the story if we're honest.  A lot will get both.

It's not confirmed as NX. They are considering it. And even if they are we don't know if it will be NX handheld,  NX home console or both.  The speculation for this will go on for quite a while.

That is just PR since they were announced before the console has officially been shown/announced.

I agree with the question of what the NX but since we all know SE is trying to resurrect hardcore gaming in Japan(especially with their works on ps4) I wouldn't be surprised if is being developed right now alongside the other versions and released not to long after(maybe 2 months since it will likely release Mid Fall with NX releasing in December.)

It's definitely going to occupy the Media Create threads for weeks to come.

Had a bit of time to ponder.  I think Square might still be contractually obligated to Nintendo or Nintendo really wants something for their next console.  Square had to hire an external studio for the ps4 version since they didn't have resources for both.  I'm a bit suspicious of that since the resources for the 3DS could have been put to use on the ps4 versiin, but anyways. Is Nintendo's next machine a console or a handheld?  My money is on handheld.  Why?  Unreal 4.  With what happened with Epic and the Wii U.  I seriously doubt they'll port the engine over.  With the ps4 version running on Unreal a port to Nintendo's next console from there isn't happening.  Which means it's gonna be ported from the 3DS.  Which is partially the reason I think for Nintendo spending money for the title or contract obligations.  3DS will be used to pay for development and thus no risk for if he NX version tanks.  Though, Level 5 supposedly admitted that they made a mistake making the DS version of Ni No Kuni, so hopefully this will work out better for Enix.  I'm glad a ps4 version is being made, I really liked Dragon Quest 8 and was really disappointed that Dragon Quest 9 ended up on the DS.

Also, if it's a handheld it isn't really an obligation from Square. It's just them getting a head start on the next handheld and building a userbase there. They are more likely to straight up support the successor to the 3DS than the successor to the Wii U.

I really don't know . If DQ11 is coming to different handhelds wouldn't it be putting the 3ds and NX against each other.

Of course there's always the chance that it's the fusion concept.

I mostly think it's obligation because they're skipping the Vita.  That makes no sense, considering Dragon Quest Heroes 2 and Dragon Quest... builders?  Is coming to the Vita and not the 3DS.  Making Dragon Quest XI PS4/3DS is a very odd combination.  Same with Dragon Quest 7 and 8.  They put them on the 3DS with no intention of bringing them out of Japan (Possibly this is Nintendo's obligation).  Skipping the Vita for those titles is also weird considering new titles are coming to Vita and not the 3DS and those titles were originally PSX/PS2 titles.  But then again, I'm guessing at the inner workings of a very messed up company.

I guess we can say that Square Enix is still being weird, but at least, it's not as bad as it was last gen.
