Epic went from being "You'll be surprised with the Wii U",  "Wii U will be great"  to "fudge the Wii U" when it actually launched. Also,  rumour had it,  Epic actually made that bird demo when the Wii U was revealed.

Apart from the tech demo rumor, didn't every third party team say stuff like that?

I think the Wii U's sales just sucked.

My GF has a 3DS and I'm planning on getting a PS4 this holiday season. Both of us win!

This was either right after, or right before launch.

Is the Japanese industry better off with ps4 as the only home console there and the next DS as the only next gen handheld?

It would focus everybody's efforts onto the respective platforms and they would need to worry about developing for multiple handhelds and home consoles.
The userbase of different games would all be in the one place too.  I think that's the best thing to be honest.

Maybe Nintendo will make a handheld that can be plugged into a TV and played like a console too,  thus the fusion concept.

-------------
On a side note if I was a fan of the series I'd be buying both.  the handheld version has a lovely HD retro vibe and the ps4 version has a real organic, graphical feel to it.

Play ps4 version at home and 3DS version when you're out.

Quote from: darkknightkryta on Jul 28, 2015, 05:59 PMI mostly think it's obligation because they're skipping the Vita.  That makes no sense, considering Dragon Quest Heroes 2 and Dragon Quest... builders?  Is coming to the Vita and not the 3DS.  Making Dragon Quest XI PS4/3DS is a very odd combination.  Same with Dragon Quest 7 and 8.  They put them on the 3DS with no intention of bringing them out of Japan (Possibly this is Nintendo's obligation).  Skipping the Vita for those titles is also weird considering new titles are coming to Vita and not the 3DS and those titles were originally PSX/PS2 titles.  But then again, I'm guessing at the inner workings of a very messed up company.
I think the initial plan was to just put it on the 3DS as an exclusive, but Yuji Horii wanted to do a console version, so they just had two different teams doing it. Hence the PS4 version.

Why would that be the plan?  Horii has full control of Dragon Quest...  Hell Horii has a really large share in Square Enix.

Because there are 18 million 3DS's out there, and over 1.5 million known dragon quest buyers.

That doesn't matter.  Square has to do what Horii says.  He has the largest share in the company.  I'm not saying he didn't change his mind during development.  But if he only wanted it on consoles though, I can't speak for that.

Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest Heroes exceeded 1 million sales in Japan and Asia, including digital downloads. Credit goes to ZhugeEx. Let's hope we see a good performance in NA and Europe.

Woah, that's very good!
It's releasing soon in the West, right?! Was it Oct or Nov?
