I'm entertained by the fact that some Xbox fans on GAF think FFVII: Re will come to the XBO ;D

Not if they don't start buying FF games. PC is the only other stop for FF7 Remake.

The way Kagari has made it sound is that negotiations between Sony and Square are ongoing. My guess is that right now Sony has lock downed timed exclusivity at the very least, which includes against a PC version. A deal hasn't yet been finalized that says it will only be on PS4 for consoles but also get a PC version later. Which would be why Sony could only say "first on PS4". Xbox fans tend to forget what happened with Rise of the Tomb Raider. That game was announced at Microsoft's 2014 E3 with no mention of any exclusivity. Two months later they announce it as a timed exclusive at Gamescom. If they could have announced that at E3 they would have. There would have been zero reason for the deceit. So somewhere between E3 and Gamescom a deal was reached which allowed them to announce that.

Also, Kagari insists that Square knows where the Final Fantasy fanbase is at and it's not on Xbox. We all know what went down with Type-0. It was a slaughter in favor of PS4 even with the demo of FF15 in the mix. The HD remasters of Final Fantasy 10 went to PS3 and Vita but then also PS4 later on. Why no Xbox versions? Despite reports a year ago of Square considering putting FF14 on Xbox One we've heard nothing for just as long and it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Which wouldn't surprise me considering that FF11 on 360 was the worst selling version against PC and PS2.

Insiders were also claiming that FF15 and KH3 were being negotiated between Sony and Square as PS4 exclusive until Square got nervous and decided they couldn't risk it. This, of course, was before the new generation began. Hell, it was even before Microsoft's PR disaster. I'm guessing that Square may now be regretting that decision. Look at what happened with World of Final Fantasy. They announced it as being first on PS4 and Vita but also announced it as console exclusive at the same time. That tells me there is a PC version later but no Xbox version. I'm willing to bet we'll get the same announcement for Final Fantasy 7 later. The fact is, Xbox One is just not the place for Eastern developed titles. The returns aren't worth the investment for even porting most games.

I'm not sure why they think they'll get the game. The Odds aren't in their favor. If you wan't Japanese games this gen you'll have no choice but to get a PlayStation. I think they should just get use to that fact.

I've been watching reaction video. I don't think I've ever seen a game get reaction like this before. The hype is beyond anything we every seen in videos games . Maybe sony should think about locking down exclusively for this game. Because its going to sell a fudge ton of consoles.

Great points. Many of Square's other games like Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2, Nier 2, and Star Ocean 5 have gone/are going Playstation-only as well as many other JRPGs from other 3rd party developers (e.g. Tales of Zestiria & Berseria, SAO: Lost Song, Persona 5). In addition, Sony said yesterday that 40% of PS4 owners did not own a PS3. On GAF, Abdiel said that from what he saw on Best Buy, Xbox customers do not ask about Japanese games, ever. Because of these three factors, the JRPG fanbase will grow on the PS4 while it will be static on the XBO, possibly even shrink.

Not only did the PS4 version of Type-0 slaughtered the XBO version, the latter sold below Microsoft's minimum print order in the US. If I was forced to print out X amount of copies only to find out not all of them sold out for the next batch, I would be absolutely furious.

My last point I'll make is Tetsuya Nomura. In his interview with Eurogamer, one of Square's biggest motives to do the remake is to reinvigorate PS4 sales in Japan:

Quote from: Direct QuoteThe slow uptake of new consoles in Japan seems to be a concern, and Square Enix is making a concerted effort to make sure the PlayStation 4 is more attractive to the audience in its home country. "There's more and more titles being introduced for the platform, and we're hoping that announcing the remake of Final Fantasy 7, it'll give a boost to people wanting to buy this current generation of console. If we announced the remake after all those titles have been sold, it wouldn't have created such an impact, so that's why we decided on this timing. We wanted to reassure players that PlayStation 4 is coming out with great titles including Final Fantasy 7. That's why we decided to announce the remake."
In addition, Nomura is working on Kingdom Hearts III and now, FFVII: Re, where the former is not even close to being finished. It is possible that Sony will be helping Nomura at speeding up the development process for FFVII: Re and not release the game way too late. In other words, this is like the situation with Ono and Street Fighter V.

I think it could find its way to xbo. World of FF, NIER, etc. are all average sellers. They'll probably do fine on PS4, but be dead on XBO.

FF7R however is huge!!! It'll sell gangbusters on PS4, and a potential XBO port could still do a few 100k at the very least. That'd break even and then some on the port costs.

But that's the thing. People want FFVII: Re now, like right now. Those who want it badly are not going to wait 3-6 months when the PS4 version is readily available to them.

Fun fact: Dragon Quest 8 sold more than FFXII, so I wouldn't be too quick to deem the other JRPGs average sellers if I were you.

What are the numbers for DQ8 and FF7?

I'm going to have to ask Kagari that. When I'll get an answer back depends on whether she's online or not.

Edit: I managed to find numbers on Wikipedia. Final Fantasy VII sold 9.8 million as of December 25, 2005. Dragon Quest VIII sold 4.9 as of September 2008.

I don't believe Shenmue or FFVII R will ever be on Xbox One.

They need to stop to dream.

I replied to someone on GAF citing Kagari's posts as evidence. His response: "I don't care what Kagari says!"

Because Kagari is only the most informed insider on GAF when it comes to Japanese games.
